Dirty Money Dirty Deeds - Nico Jackson

    1

Kendra and Stevi watched as Jay unlocked the door to the storage facility. Amir stood with his back to them, scanning their surroundings. He was carrying a shotgun.

Jay went behind the counter and checked the computer. There's no one in here.

Amir glanced over his shoulder. Are you sure?

We have motion detectors and cameras. I checked my phone on the way here, and the cameras are still clear.

I don't anything for granted, Amir said. Where's the unit?

Down this first hallway. The fifth unit.

Amir walked ahead of them, his gun at the ready. Wait here. Keep your eye on the door.

Jay drew his pistol. Got it.

The hallway dead-ended. He checked each of the unit doors to make sure they were locked. He walked back and jerked his chin at Jay. We'll stay out here. We'll let the lawyers do their thing. Y'all packing, right, ladies?

    Of course, Stevi said.

Amir nodded. Nothing's getting past us. Do what you need to.

Stevi unlocked the door and pushed up. She and Kendra went inside. There were six file boxes. It looks like we have our work cut out for us.

Kendra opened a box and peered inside. The box had an accordion folder with a rubber band around it. Avery's name was on the label.

Stevi was digging through another box. There's a lot here.

Let's take them to my house.

    Should you be lifting that?

I wasn't going to. Kendra stepped into the hallway. Jay? Didn't I see a cart?

    It's by the front desk.

We've got file boxes to go through.

Jay put the safety on his gun. I'll get it.

    No, I can do it.

He made eye contact with her. You sure?

    I can push it.

Don't pick up any of those boxes.

    I won't.

Go ahead, Amir said. I got this.

Jay got the cart and pushed it to the unit. He loaded the boxes. Stevi, lock up, okay?

Stevi secured the unit and they all stood in the lobby. Amir peered out the door. I'm going out first. Ladies, in the middle. Will that door lock behind us?

    Yes.

Okay, no one's come in the lot.

I locked the gates, Jay replied.

Let's grab these boxes to the car and get out of Dodge.

They packed the Escalade. Stevi rode in front with Amir. Jay and Kendra took the back seat.
