Success is the ability to achieve the goals that we set ourselves, regardless of what they are or why we want to reach them. Most people have a financial goal but this is only one of the myriad goals that we can and do set ourselves. Other goals include good health, a happy family, excellence at work, excellence at sport, social acceptance and spiritual strength. Whatever your goals are, they can be reached. Bear in mind though, that if success was easy, everyone would be successful. In Life, what you put in is what you will get out.
Failures and other forms of hurt can be difficult to deal with but we can turn them to our advantage by focusing on the lessons that these setbacks have to offer. It is quite natural to be disappointed and disheartened when we fail to reach our intended goals but continuing to concentrate on the unwanted and usually unexpected result that we have encountered is destructive and can easily lead to us abandoning our objective.
Every failure that we encounter has within it a lesson to be learned. The reason for most failures is usually that we have followed a flawed procedure or formula. What we therefore need to do is analyze the procedure that we adopted and collect as much information about the alternative ways to reach our goal. We must then apply each new method until we find the method that allows us to move forward.
By collecting more information about the processes that could lead to our success we are increasing our knowledge of what we are striving to achieve and this is the only way to achieve success. Knowledge is power and the more knowledge we have about what we are attempting to achieve, the more successful we will be.
Many of the people who fail to achieve their dreams ever considered the fact that the route to their prospective dream will be fraught with difficulties and obstacles and when they are confronted with these challenges are unqualified to overcome them. As a result, they abandon their dreams. The fact is that just about everything that is worthwhile achieving has a cost and when it comes to achieving a goal, it is no different.
Goals that are easily achieved very seldom have any depth or value. Achieving a goal by winning the lottery or inheriting wealth may be classified as an achievement but it never has the value that achieving the same goal through hard and clever work has. If success was easy to achieve, everybody would be successful. The fact is that achieving a goal is laden with challenges and obstacles.
If you have a dream that you want to fulfill it is very important to accept that the road to that dream is going to be challenging, especially if it is a very meaningful dream. But this shouldn’t be a deterrent; it should be seen as a challenge that can be overcome. Each time you reach an obstacle you need to analyze the reason for the obstruction and find the solution that will allow you to proceed.
Don’t ever give up on your goals. The only time you fail is when you give up. As long as you keep trying, the possibility of succeeding remains. Whenever you are tempted to give up, think about why you started and then carry on. Don’t ever give up!
Preparation and Luck

I believe luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn’t been prepared when the opportunity came along, you wouldn’t have been lucky.
Oprah Winfrey
Opportunities are forever presenting themselves to us but how do we recognize an opportunity when it comes along? It isn’t a matter of recognizing opportunities; it’s a matter of expecting them. If you’re looking for your misplaced car keys you expect to find them sooner or later and the main thing that occupies your mind during your search is the expectation of finding the keys. You are not likely to overlook them because they are the focus of your attention. Exactly the same principle applies to opportunities.
If you’re expecting to find an opportunity then you are very likely to find it because it’s what you are focusing on. When we expect something we automatically become more positive in our outlook and more receptive to what presents itself to us. Opportunity doesn’t knock. It is waiting to be discovered. We all need to make a habit of looking for opportunities. But how do we do this? We do this by investigating things that happen around us and by trying to make a connection between any part of that happening and the things that we want and can do.
CONNECTIONS
Making such a connection invariably leads to something positive. And don’t be surprised it the result isn’t quite what you expected. Don’t be pedantic. Be as flexible as you can. This in itself can create opportunities. We tend to only look for opportunities that are life-changing but this is seldom the case. If we learn to focus on small opportunities and succeed in identifying them and acting on them, we will soon get into the habit of seeing all opportunities, and this feeds on itself and prepares us for the big opportunities when they present themselves. The more we practice, the more positive our expectations will become and the more successful we will become.
Success is the result of good habits and the habit of seeing opportunities is one of the most important. But seeing opportunity is only one aspect of the process. We can actually create opportunity by using our expectations of success and expressing our abilities and desires at every opportunity. People are opportunities and we must strive to let them know about our abilities and desires so that they can connect with us. Everyone is looking for opportunities and we will all be more successful if we work together to reach our common goals.
BEING FLEXIBLE
And when it comes to an experience, we must try to make whatever connection we can with the reason for, and the result of, that connection, using the qualities and experiences that we possess. By doing this we can often see a correlation that leads to a definite opportunity. Finding a connection is often simply a matter of asking a few questions or telling people of our aims and ambitions. If we aren’t aware of each other’s aims, ambitions and wants, how can we possibly connect?
By being flexible we can also change direction if we don’t see an opportunity in an experience. We may be looking for the wrong thing. We must learn to investigate other avenues as these often lead to what we are seeking. Above all, don’t be afraid. Do it. Look for what you want and then act on what you find. Procrastination leads to fear which leads to inactivity. Get into the habit of finding opportunities, no matter how small, and then act on them. The more you grow this habit the larger your opportunities will become.
OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND
Bear in mind that opportunities come in all shapes and sizes and are not only about money. Every aspect of life contains opportunities. Love, happiness, learning, health and spiritual matters all have endless opportunities. By cultivating the habit of creating and seeing opportunities we are creating the habit of growth in our lives. By expecting opportunity we are expecting the best from life.
