About this ebook

Walk the Wire: Memory Man, Book 6 by David Baldacci: Conversation Starters

A professional hunter was hired to track down a wolf that killed two cows. The two cows belonged to one of the wealthiest men in the fracking town of London, North Dakota. Instead, he found a dead woman’s body. The victim was a beautiful schoolteacher with a shrouded past. She taught in the special school inside a colony of religious pacifists. Oddly enough, the pacifist colony is the next-door neighbor of a USAF Special Weapons base. It was a murder that the local police could investigate and solve. Despite this, two veteran FBI investigators were flown out to North Dakota to take over. They have no clue why they were sent there. They do not know who to trust. With old and new ghosts catching up to them, they need to solve the case before they become the next victims in a high-stakes game.

    Introducing Walk the Wire

The story happened in a fracking town in North Dakota. It was a town that had suffered a series of booms and busts, and our story took place during one of the most recent booms. It began with the discovery of a dead woman’s body in the middle of nowhere close to the Canadian border. A seasoned hunter, who was hired to track down a wolf, found the body. The corpse's location was not the most exciting detail about the body as the story opened its curtains to the readers. Aside from being found in the middle of nowhere, the body had already undergone a post-mortem. To make it more interesting, the FBI was called in to take over the investigation.

Walk the Wire is the sixth book in the Memory Man series—a detective series written by David Baldacci. The series features an ex-college jock—Amos Decker—who had a brain injury, which gave him an infallible memory and the social skills of a Komodo dragon. He soon became the FBI’s leading investigator using his trustworthy memory to solve cases.

Decker and his partner, ex-journalist Alex Jamison, were flown to North Dakota to solve the dead girl's case without any background on the case. Even the local police detective—Lieutenant Joe Kelly—was puzzled as to why the FBI was called in for a local murder. To his surprise, even the two FBI agents didn't have any clues.

The story is a fast-paced mystery thriller. Baldacci knew how to balance the details that he would include in each scene with the characters' actions and dialogues. The scenes were all written well, and the sequence of events complemented the activity within each location. Baldacci knew how to give just enough bone in each chapter to keep the reader coming back for more. The majority of the dialogues are direct and sharp. This helps move the story fast in scenes where there is
