David, Carolina, and Bogdan left the mansion and stood outside.

Come I want to show you something. Let us take a walk.

One of the most beautiful days ever. It is sunny with a cool breeze that seems to invigorate and energize everyone. Especially me. I think I can do with being outdoors after the past hectic weeks indoors, said David.

At least we can enjoy a quick break before the fighting phases begin again.

They instantly stopped.

Do you think we can stand a chance now that Marson is now the main man? The leader of the cult. The to-be most feared Devil-Is-I himself, asked Bogdan.

That my friend is the million-dollar question. But I can only say that we can do our best, replied David.

I think things will be tough now. It is now an uphill. I had high hopes when Hudson was the leader. Tough but he was sloppy. Taking his time with everything. To him precision mattered the most, said Carolina.

I am not surprised considering he was a physicist. A military doctor. He preferred quality to speed and quantity. That gave us a lot of time and ground to catch up and sometimes to outsmart him, replied David.

Marson is bad news. He is concerned with results only, and efficiency and that my friends can see us all obliterated by that monster.

Bogdan stopped and twisted his neck.

Damn it! My neck is killing me. I feel like I overslept yesterday, said Bogdan.

They all stopped and looked at each other.

Damn It! I was thinking the very same thing. You know that feeling when you sleep extra hours, said David.

I was also feeling the same but that can't be a coincidence. Is it? Asked Carolina.

They all looked at each other.

Do you think what I am thinking?

Carolina quickly opened her diary and started reading.

Bogdan researched online.

We are all dead, for the Devil-Is-I is here!

They all looked haunted.

I can't believe that yesterday there were thirteen hours to the night and twelve hours of the day, said Bogdan.

Sorry. Do you mean thirteen hours to the night and eleven to the day? Asked David.

No, I meant total hours just yesterday were twenty-five hours, replied Bogdan.

They all looked fear-struck.

That can only mean the rise of the Devil-Is-I.

The rise of the devil's ghosts? Asked Bogdan?

 Carolina quickly looked at both the men and started reading her notes.

The Devil-Is-I once he is confident that the majority has been reached will initiate a new covenant. A new era where he can change and rewrite the system. New laws and new ways of governing but the most important thing here just before the rise of the devil ghosts is the..., said Carolina.

Look out Carolina! Bogdan! Shouted David.

He pushed Carolina and Bogdan to the sides before he ducked down as a well-toned man appeared from nowhere before jumping in the air about to fly kick Carolina and Bogdan. As Carolina staggered to the side she dropped the diary the moment Caleb passed her heading for David who ducked. Bogdan staggered to the side before throwing a round kick even though it was timed late as Caleb was now attacking David.

Who the fuck are you? Where did you come from? Roared David folding his fists.

I am the key to the new era. The twenty-five key. A lethal assassin to eliminate all of you bastards! To make sure that implementing the new system is smooth. I will not stop until you all have met your demise! Thundered Caleb.

Did Marson send you? Asked Bogdan.

What difference does it make who sent me? I am here to kill all of you!

Caleb instantly lurched forward and kicked David, Bogdan, and Carolina so fast that they did not anticipate that.

Damn it! Why so fast!

You haven’t seen anything! For the first time in the history of mankind key for chapter 25 rose from the ashes. This key was once destroyed before our kingdom of darkness was destroyed. But has been recovered now forever! So, all your resistance is in vain! You are all going to die! Now that is said. I can butcher all of you to death.

Caleb lurched and attacked ferociously punching all so fast leaving all nursing their wounds.

Who would have thought that on such a lovely day we will be attacked at our mansion? Otherwise, we could have shot you already, said David.

He looked at Bogdan as if telling him to sprint to the mansion and get the guns.

The key that comes after attainment of the majority is rare and has never been there before but once it has arisen it take all the powers of the keys that were there before into one and form a man-eater to run rampage and destroy all opposition

Mark of the beast, whispered David looking at Caleb then at Bogdan.

Are you saying that Mark of the beast refers to the key and not to the devil himself? Asked Bogdan. He instantly changed his mind about sprinting to the mansion to get the guns.

Mark of the beats. It is a key and not the devil himself? Can he..., asked Carolina.

David instantly round kicked Caleb that he staggered backward touching his chest.

Distracting tactics, right? Asking questions and planning to attack me. You pay for this! He roared.

He jumped forward and somersaulted in the air kicking David and Bogdan at the same time as they stood side by side. Touching the ground with his hands as he landed but rolling as well then flipped to the side going for Carolina.

You son of a bitch! Roared David intercepting him but somehow getting kicked in the neck and on the thigh. But Bogdan lurched forward and kicked him in the stomach, but he quickly turned and kicked him on the shoulder then kicked David again before he landed. Carolina held David and Bogdan's shoulder getting momentum that she lurched and double kicked Caleb. The second he staggered backward she sprinted to the mansion as David and Bogdan blocked him both lurching forward attacking fiercely kicking. The moment he fell touching his chest and stomach a sharp roar startled all.

You were saying what motherfucker! Shouted Carolina holding the gun aiming at Caleb.

Now advancing the finger tight on the trigger she cursed hard.

Die Motherfucker!

She pointed.

What are you waiting for? Shoot him! Roared David.

But Caleb was already in the air flipping, landing on one side then the other. Carolina aimed all the place he had been cursing firing shots. 

That is not human, whispered Bogdan.

Caleb kept flipping and somersaulting ducking bullets and escaping and the moment he turned around the corner the gun had now fired all the bullets. The huge roaring sound of an animal after he disappeared left all fear-stricken.

Did you see that? Asked Carolina.

Trained after the beast. Acting like an animal?

I think he might return. Jumping like that, what could you fear if it were you? Absolutely nothing!

Instantly a large roar startled all as he suddenly appeared jumping in the air rolling advancing holding his legs before he let out a scream that David and Bogdan froze. He retrieved knives as he jumped in the air about to strike David and Bogdan when Carolina screamed the second, she had inserted a new bullet cartridge and fired shots. The two men overpowered fell to the ground as he rolled on the ground turning quickly and coming back to strike again. Carolina stopped and stood still aiming and just before he attacked again fired at him.

Caleb let out a short but sharp sound before falling just next to David.

No!. 

Shouted the security guards before they wrestled him and took the gun off him.

That is one seat there! We will delay the whole phase if we sacrifice her!

Everyone stood up.

We demand answers! Is this true? If there is an easy way on a plate, why are you not taking it?

Some pulled out guns supporting Keaton.

Leave him alone! Give him back his gun. If he wanted to kill her first before discussing this, he could have already done so. Keaton is right! If it’s that deadly like you are saying. The more pressing and reasonable to take her out. Now! 

They pointed at the security guards and some at Stacey.

David roared.

Okay let’s talk about this!

They all sat down.

David raised his hand to the security men, and they walked to the doors, leaving Keaton taking center stage.

All put your guns away! Shouted Carolina.

Listen up. If David wants us to believe that this next stage is the deadliest in mankind’s history. If that is true. If he wants us to believe that this is true. Then I say we have an option. We can save thousands from dying. We can sacrifice one to save thousands. Enabling us to reach the majority of eighteen seats out of the twenty-four ones. If we sacrifice one now. That means taking them one phase back and buying time. In the last phase, we lost hundreds of our men and in this stage, we are going to lose even more. All we must do to save all these men is put a bullet in that soldier’s head!

There was a huge buzz.

Don’t be deceived by the gorgeous looks! She is a soldier. A lethal Presidential bodyguard. We have lost more innocent people than her, Javelina for example! So, I don’t see why my men can die when she is there!

David roared.

I object and as long as I am the leader. That is not going to happen on my watch!

Keaton roared.

I have a duty to my men as well! To give them a task that doesn’t put them in danger unnecessarily when there is an easy option! To make things worse, our leader here! President David, for weeks. Spent hours looking for the same person to kill to delay and take back our seats. This was his goal from the word go! He was convinced then, just as now! That this was the best solution! The very reason he placed himself as the leader of the attacking force! Pointing out that this was critical! That he must be the leader of the attacking force! That is a fact! Ladies and gentlemen! The only difference now is that he didn’t know that his target is his partner!

The people went berserk.

The very woman he traveled with everywhere! It came as a shock as well and we have proof that the very same person our President is protecting, has tried to take his life! This woman standing in front of us!

The crowd went berserk.

I am not judging our President, but they are playing him, taking his soft spot and using it to get all of us killed! Where is Javelina? The very person he is protecting, is the very woman who was sent to kill him! We have proof that she is one of them, a spy among us! Every time we spend time with her, she sends information about us back to her former employer. Our enemies, so when they attack, they kill us all!

The people burst into chanting and hissings.

Keaton played the CCTV of Stacey, pointing a gun at David.

Our leader might not know this, but she is being initiated. Given the huge task of infiltrating our compound and using her beautiful looks to soften our President! Then kill him as a prodigy of our enemy. I tell you all this! That all leaders here are against her being here! Carolina refused the idea! So as Juliana, Bogdan and myself, Mark, and everyone else! She is a security risk! Also, in that, she can change the system, so they come and attack us. There are so many factors that act against her being here. The greatest to us! Is the fact that she is a gift from God! If the regime is to destroy humanity, I say God gave us her on a plate to sacrifice to save mankind! If he can give his beloved son; Jesus to save all humanity! I don’t see why I can’t put a bullet in her head right now and save not just my men! But all humanity?

The people went bananas.

Is this true President David? Please address us!

David looked at Stacey. A flashback of the death of Javelina startled and frightened him. He panicked for a bit but gathered his strength and courage.

Of course, he won’t tell you the truth! I will tell you what we must do! We have to take her to the Eye of the Devil’s Eye Island and anoint her, then kill her! Shouted Keaton.

Bogdan got up.

Would that not increase their seat as we will be anointing one of them and not one of us?

They all looked at Keaton.

See, the system is designed to react to all parameters!

There was a huge buzz.

She is a traitor! Shouted one.

A bloody Trojan! If you ask me! Shouted another.

We have a right to protect our leaders and men. You can’t protect a traitor, a Trojan, and a spy!

Yes, Sir, with all due respect! If what you said is correct. Anything that threatens our whole existence can’t be justified! It becomes everyone’s responsibility for the very message you are advocating for!

She had no idea! It all happened when she was only five years old!

Still doesn’t change the fact that technically she is one of them and can jeopardize our security and safety! To us, she is valuable, only if she is dead. That frees a vital seat! You, as our leader, what would be the best way to save us? Jesus, let them kill him! So, he can open doors for everyone else. As you appointed her to a leadership role. It also follows that she has indirectly pledged to die saving us! So, to save us, she must die! I don’t care if she kills herself or dies at the hand of another. As their leader, they should not die unnecessarily when there is an easy option!

They started applauding as he finished speaking.

David rose up and roared.

Silence! Stop all this nonsense! I will protect her with my own life! If that comes to that. Put yourself in her shoes! That can’t be an option. What you will be doing is to make her do something against her will! She came to us, meaning we must fight them for her!

There was a huge roar. They interrupted.

Stacey started crying.

She sobbed profusely.

If these were the Oscars, she would get an Oscar for such a performance! But all crocodile tears! Think about the lives of those who died? If they were here today, ask yourself! Would they allow her in here when we know she still works for them? Above all! To us she is a treasure only if she is dead, said Keaton.

I don’t want to create divisions among you! I volunteered, and I can simply walk away from all this if I am unwanted!

There was a huge buzz.

Walk away then so we can come after you! Even David would not worry about that! As that is exactly what he was going to do, anyway! Shouted Juliana.

Help us as well! Walk away from all this. So, when we take you down no one feels guilty, that maybe you are one of us because you are not!

She screamed in agony.

What do you mean I am not? 

She pointed the gun at Juliana, who retaliated instantly.

Walk away, Trojan! So that we send our best to take you out! Nothing personal, but your head will save a hundred men. Not just of men, but men of honor! So, walk away Trojan!

Chanted the crowd non-stop.

Listen to me! I gave Keaton a chance to speak. Now, let her speak as well! Roared David.

She got out from behind the people and walked in the open in front of the leaders.

I don’t want to die! But if I am to die, I must die fighting. I can’t be sacrificed. So, one on one with Keaton!

She pulled her gun and walked toward him, aiming. Keaton flipped in the air somersaulting before landing near her and retrieved his gun and aimed hard. Jerking his head backward to push his hair locks backward, agitated that she challenged him. The people shouted and screamed as they locked eyes.

Keaton frantically kept twitching his nose, his-finger tightly on the trigger.

David roared and instantly pulled his gun and interchangeably aimed at them.

He roared.

You are doing exactly what they want you to do! I would rather shoot you two first before you kill each other. I came here to find an answer and not to see you kill each other. Stop that now!

Keaton looked unamused by all this.

Even if this is the only way to save us all? 

Keaton asked David.

The crowd roared.

Keaton is right! Why not? If this is the only option to save us!

Sir, I have the lives of my men to worry about rather than a traitor! This is how we treat spies and traitors. It’s a universal language and everyone understands it! We shoot them in the head in public like this! 

He aimed and fired.

Stacey flipped up spinning in the air landing in one place before flipping in the air again. Somersaulting to the side and landing on a different place. Then instantly flipped up again, but still in the air. She fired back just one shot. A loud but shot growl of pain sound startled everyone. She landed and smiled.

Keaton stood there speechless, looking at David. Slowly then looked at Stacey and raised the gun again.

No! I will shoot you myself! Roared David.

He touched his ear and looked inside his hand.

She shot me! I can’t believe she shot me!

She started laughing.

She gave you a warning shot! Shouted David.

Bitch! I’m going to kill you slowly?

Will see about that!

I can’t believe you shot me! Thundered Keaton.

I only fired a warning shot.

She paused.

Just a flesh wound. Bitch! Shouted Stacey.

What did you say?

The cocking of the gun silenced all.

I am not happy she is here! Shouted Keaton.

Yes, we all know now why because I am the best sharpshooter!

She sarcastically taunted him.

No! Not because of that. She might be leaking information. We don’t give our enemies the best and highest seats but put a bullet in the head! He bellowed.

So, you wish David had given you this position?

I requested to be his wingman because I worked hard, but it’s not about that. I want you to listen to me very carefully! It’s my men dying out there. The bond between my men and me is strong and special enough. That just their word of mouth is strong enough to use that for my life. It’s all wrong that they must die! David walked to the window and looked outside.

Killing her now saves your men, that is a fact. But for a few hours as we delay the next phase, but every time we delay the coming stage. They automatically increase strength and capacity that means even tougher and ruthless in the following stage.

Keaton breathed hard.

She is one of us now, and you must treat her as such.

Keaton is right. She pledged to die for the good of the group. This is what it means to protect the group. Sacrificing her means delaying everything. Maybe let’s hear your plan first?

Instantly the door opened wide and Stacey ran inside.

David! She shouted excitedly but frowned instantly when she saw Carolina and Bogdan.

You guys talking about sacrificing me again? Asked Stacey, smiling.

Sorry Stacey, they only sacrifice virgins so definitely not talking about you, Carolina laughed sarcastically.

Bogdan and Carolina got up to go. Bogdan looked at David.

Think about what we said!

Bye Stacey.

They walked out.

I know you are going to do me a Judas! Sell me cheaply when the tough get tougher. The more pressure they will put on you, the more you will submit. Imagine the phases that are still open? These will make Marson keep sending ruthless assassins to attack and ravage your men. Imagine then dying when you have an option? They will all up rise against you to kill me. In the end, when they have killed all your men, you will realize that you should have listened to Keaton, but that trauma can do you another Javelina. 

She burst into laughter.

David’s heart started pounding fast. That was a huge possibility and for sure, something he did not want to happen. Maybe take her to the safe house and just strangle her there. He thought to himself. Instantly she seemed to have read David’s thoughts that she wore a sad face.

He bursts into laughter.

What’s funny?

I was just imagining putting a bullet in your head and all my men lifting me up high in the skies celebrating.

She started crying.

I don’t want to die. I ran away from them because I didn’t want to be sacrificed. Now, I am facing death, and everyone started talking about sacrificing me too. Now everyone I see taunts me, saying that it won’t be long now before one took me out with a bullet. That really hurts. I have no purpose but to die first?

That is exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. Keaton is right, but I think maybe we do it professionally.

She got up, cursing.

I knew it, Judas! Bloody Judas! You sold me already for thirty pieces of silver. I can’t believe it! I thought you were different from them!

Don’t bring her into this okay? She was a civilian, one who was training to leadership whereas you are combatant!

"I will tell you why I ran away from them. I had nightmares most of the time, the same dream over again. In my dream, I was running in this dark passage. So dark that I couldn’t see anything. I fell several times but each time I got up and proceeded running from voices shouting. Get her and get her! Frightened to death, I ran fast in the dark passage and instantly saw a light signaling the end of the dark passage. That triggered me into running even faster but as I reached the end of the tunnel a shining huge knife from nowhere slash my throat, that blood gushed out as I tumbled to the ground. The blood flowed into a drain down the drain system until a hoarse voice started shouting.

Drain all her blood out and blow out the torch so we can claim another seat. 

As all blood runs out of my body that light at the end of the passage was blown out. That after that everything became pitch black. A huge roar of applauding filled the passage. I felt floating as if falling in a deep pit, then instantly I woke up. The dreams had stopped since I started working for you until last night, David looked at her.

I put a gun to my head last night, she started crying.

She looked at him.

I must admit they are all right. I was born just to die and save everyone else at my expense. But this is so fucked up!

If I let you die, then I will become like them. That is exactly what they want me to do, the main reason they do this. But saving you means the lives of the team will end, too. How do I strike a balance? Asked David.

You can’t save both. You must choose. Me or them. Jesus chose a hooker. Magdalena, despite his men’s disapproval. Then look what happened to him; death came to him!

   Later.

Keaton, Carolina, Bogdan, Mat, Juliana, Mark, Stacey, David, and the others sat around the table.

Keaton, tell us your plan again?

It’s simple. Take her to the Eye of the Devil’s Eye Island and anoint her since she is one of them. She needs to sit on any seat. She held the gold scriptures already, so it means she already has a key that opens the chapters and already has a chapter assigned to her. Now here is the trick. We all know that all the seats are taken as she is like a reserve. Anointing her gets her assigned someone else’s seat. As the system can only offer twelve of the twenty-four to the dark side, the devil side. Now a system error will be detected that now the system has thirteen recipients with only twelve seats available. A system error will be registered showing duplicates. That triggers an alarm, and the system automatically shuts down to reboot. My plan works here. The system will revert to the best-known configuration before introducing her into the system, but as they are duplicates. It also removes the person whose seat she sat on meaning when it reboots it has eleven seats waiting to select the correct one of the two. Now we must work fast and hack the system and get a list of all the keys. Then after rebooting it removes hers and places back the persons whom she had unseated. Now we ran a full report and identified whom she had unseated. We get that key’s number and properties. Once we have that we can use her to identify exactly who that person is. We can zone the two or use one as the trigger for the other. Meaning that when she arrives in the area, the other is. The other passes out. We then check who has been reported as fainted etc. and taken to hospital, etc.

After the meeting, Keaton walked to Stacey and hugged her.

Thank you for buying me time, you must have gone to great lengths to try to save me. Feeling guilty or afraid?

Don’t get me wrong, I am still going to kill you. This is just to distract David, so we can have that one on one. A date has been set already!

CHAPTER TWO

A limousine packed at a beauty spot before the door suddenly opened. A woman shivering in the cold suddenly entered wearing a beautiful short dress with a skin top that made her look like she was nude as the red sexy dress was only up to the area just below her breast line. Maverick smiled briefly at her sight.

Thanks for coming!

You don’t need to thank me. I am doing my job. This is what I get to be paid to do. Come winter snow or not, some of us have a reputation to keep, said Dove.

Maverick laughed briefly.

As the hottest sharpshooter?

Of course, I will do your dirty work and you know what. I have increased the stakes. I want a huge cut. Now that I know why you want them gone, she replied lighting a very long slim cigarette.

You know I am strict with smoking in here, said Maverick.

Maverick spit out the champagne in his mouth.

Forty percent? You must be shitting me, Dove!

Maverick sipped his champagne silently for a while.

I had no idea the bank could be so corrupt and above all greedy, said Dove.

She opened the window and blew the smoke out.
