Forward
I see everything in words. From every sight I see, every emotion I feel, every experience I have, words come to mind to express the output of all of these. Words fill me, sing to me, console me and move me forward.
Every poem has meaning to me, where I have placed an infinitesimal piece of my soul to live on the page, between the lines and within the meanings.
Words are sometimes dark, sometimes ponder, and sometimes express the emotions I feel, be it love, anger, hurt or hate. Words are the means in which I express everything, where I release fear and embrace life.
Simply put, words are my vessels:
Words are the vessels
in which we express
Our souls
Revealing inner most
thoughts and selves
Thoughts are the foundation
To what we base our judgment
Utilizing our hopes, fear
Dreams and wisdom
To expose strengths
Knowledge is the key
To finding our place
Helping us to know
Limitations, realize weakness
And overcome our demons
Dedication
I dedicate this book to Meghan. You changed me more than even words could explain. I love you, my oldest child. Thank you for showing me what greatness looks like.
Acknowledgements
There are so many people that I could acknowledge for the creation of this book.
Tracey Carlson for your kick butt editing and selection skills, your marketing skills and your friendship and complete faith in me. As in everything I couldn’t have managed this without you.
Stephen Anstay, my poetry guru who over the years helped me tighten up my style and skills.
Silvina Lanusse, who created the incredibly beautiful cover art, as always exceeded my expectations.
Zoe Duff, for your hard work to Canadian writers, you inspire me to want more.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge all of the people I love. Whether I gave you life, you gave me life or we brighten each others lives. You inspire me everyday. You know who you all are.
Part I: Hell
Black hole
She digs and digs and digs
The dirt flies in every direction
In the desperate rush to finish
Rational thought has ebbed away
Flown with every particle of dirt
Atom by atom disintegrated
Filth covers a once pristine white tee shirt
Blood trickles from her hands
The grip on the shovel tears tender flesh
Concerned a friend approaches tentative
What are you doing?
Tears well in bloodshot eyes
Startled she looks up
Considers, pauses, closes green eyes
Whispers in ragged tones
I am looking for the light
Kill her with Kindness
Her heart once so alive
Now in a weeping chest
He promised everlasting love
But again
And again
And again
Put it to the test
He lied
And lied
And lied
His smile shone bright
She
