    Hair always has been, and always will be, an important factor in people’s looks. It’s a basic part of our makeup. It affects the way others see us and the way we see ourselves. Americans spend almost $12 billion on hair care every year. Hair care is essential to women and men throughout the world. The hair industry dominates the beauty industry. Shadowy corporations control the major brands, trying to control our tastes. So in the matter of hair, consumers must find their way through a huge array of products, many of which won’t help them at all. If you are going to take the best care of your hair and identify the hair products you need, you must take the time to study the industry and all the items it produces. Only then can consumers bring about a paradigm shift in the hair industry.

    Not all hair is equal; hair care is a more complex issue for black women than for any other group. A black woman’s hair is different due to its unique textures. These have been recognized since the era of slavery, and each texture (also called a grade) has a name. These names include kinky, kinks, coarse, nappy, good, not good, bad, thick, matted, dreads, and big. These hair issues cause many black women undue stress.
