The Standard of a King - Pastor Fiona Lynch

    God.

    Introduction

Although many are called to set up their own personal ministry or even a Church, there is always a starting place. This starting place is where a person is planted to enable them to learn and grow according to God’s will, personally and corporately. John 15 tells us that Jesus is the true vine and only through him can the branches grow. We cannot grow fully unless we are connected to His body, the Church.

This book is for those who have a desire to understand the functioning of the Church in order that they can either lead a ministry in their Church or assist where they can and are called. This book, written with simplicity, will give the reader some basic insight and knowledge on how the Church should function according to God’s order by having the standard of a king.

    Chapter 1

    Providing a Service

We are all called to serve and as a Church we are here to provide a service to each other and to our community. The service we provide, as a Church, should be of ‵The standard of a king’. What I mean by this is, if we think about Jesus and His character and him being our king, we will, as Ministers clothe ourselves with His standard, His righteousness as we become obedient to His will. King David in Psalms 101 speaks of such a standard.

As you read through this book, I challenge you to think about what you need to change about your character or work on in your life and then submit it to God and allow the Holy Spirit to help and direct you in this transformation.

    Service

The word service means an action of helping someone or a system supplying a public need, (Oxford English mini-dictionary). A service can therefore be a singular action or a corporate action.

In any organization, corporate co-operation by the employees of a service is essential in the supplying of an individual need. This is what we call teamwork. If we don’t work together, it will be like a tug of war, some trying to go in one direction and others going in another direction, causing confusion to service users.

For example have you ever made a query about something in a shop and one person directs you to someone else, then that person directs you again to another person, or even one person gives you advice, which is contrary to what you have been told by someone else in the same shop. This is because neither of them or one of them does not know enough about the company and how it operates. If you do not know the answer to a query or the person you should direct a person to, ask someone who may know for advice or even take the person’s details in order that you can get back to them.

Therefore it is good to know how your Church operates and the people who are responsible for certain services, so that you will know where you fit in and be a part of providing a good service for the Church.

    A Spiritual Structure

Having a structure is important. Every Church should have one just like any other organisation. Structure establishes stability and order. Structure tells us who does what so that those coming in will know who to go to for a specific need. For example a company has a director, secretary and admin staff. As Christians, our structure is spiritual. We are living stones and a spiritual building connecting together as a body of believers with each person doing their work for the building of the ministry. See 1 Peter 2:5 & Ephesians 4:15-16.

    Leaders

Someone has to lead the way. Not all can be leaders of an organisation but all can play a part. Leaders are in place for a reason. Ephesians 4:11-13 tells us why God has given us leaders. ‵It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

This scripture explains leaders in a nutshell. They are placed in a believer’s life to prepare them for ministry and we all need to
