About this ebook

This book gives a list of the spiritual gifts: the true one, the human counterfeits, and even the satanic ones. The reader will find a very helpful procedure to identify what their gifts are. They will be abundantly helped and will be able to help others understand and use their own gifts. Since we live in an age of many false teachers, it is crucial that believers are able to discern the true from the counterfeit.

    Endnotes:

    Prologue:

My father took us, nine of us, his children, to Bolivia, South America where he served with New Tribes Mission. I thought I would become a missionary like Dad. It perhaps was not unexpected then that the Lord would allow me to attend Bible College. It became obvious in my early adult years at college that God had graciously given me the gift of leadership, i.e. administration. One year the class elected me president. I served as business manager for the yearbook and as a head counselor while simultaneously serving as Youth Director for a local church. Later, with the help of others, I guided The Central New York State Christian Education Association into existence. These kinds of roles continued, as I became pastor of a church at a young age. Other leadership responsibilities were given to me. Along with the gift of leadership God graciously provided the gift of teaching, and in time it became evident that I also was blessed with the gift to preach.

While still young, the need to know and follow my gifting became very evident to me. As an educator in a church setting, it also became very important to help others know their gifts. Many, to assist them to discover, develop and deploy their gifts, used an earlier, condensed format of this book. Now we are rewriting it with much greater content and clarity. I hope my personal adventure with our Lord will assist you in your ministries, and that you will know you’ve been blessed to know what he is doing for others through you. What Paul, the Apostle, wished, I wish for each of us:

. . . That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death… Philippians 3:10

To them (the saints) God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. Colossians 1:26-28

    Introduction:

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 1 Corinthians 12:1

When we realize that even a child can have a clear understanding of spiritual gifts, we can get truly excited about the adventure in front of us as we use this manual. If you are not completely satisfied with how you are currently using your gifts, when you finish this process you will be well on your way to some of the greatest blessings of your spiritual journey. If you are born again by the grace of Jesus Christ, through faith, one of the greatest experiences you will have is that of being confident that you are doing what God affirms. If you are where God wants you to be and doing what God wants you to do, you will be in a very satisfying and purposeful place in your spiritual life. Everything about your spiritual and emotional well-being will make new sense to you. You will, as is often said today, get it.

Perhaps it will be helpful to encourage you to distinguish the fruit of the Spirit from the gifts of the Spirit. This book is not dealing with the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit show the character that He provides for all believers who seek Him. No one needs to be concerned that he/she cannot have all the fruit of the Spirit in abundance. Praise our Lord that everyone of us can experience the full exciting blessedness of having the fruit of the Spirit. These are given to all who will live a godly life in Christ Jesus.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Furthermore, there are some things that the Holy Spirit does in us that are universal. For example, we are all given the priceless privilege of prayer. We are also given the opportunity to give to support God’s work. We are given the privilege of witnessing. These are given a little more discussion as an endnote.

The better we understand the work of the Holy Spirit, the
