    Introduction

Not another book about natural health and diet! How many different ways can there be to eat?!

This book was not written to be an exhaustive study into diet, exercise or natural health products, but rather, it was written to give you options. Options beyond what your medical doctor, the mainstream media or big pharmaceutical companies tell you are the only answers.

My name is Dr. David Leader. Since I was a young boy, the human body and health have fascinated me. From the age of 18, I have been involved in the healthcare profession. Initially, I was trained in the U.S. Air Force as a field medic, Respiratory Therapist and Cardiovascular Technician; working with ventilator patients, breathing function testing, emergency room procedures, performing stress tests, cardiac catheterizations and ultrasound tests on the heart. After my time in the military, I continued to work in these same fields in the private sector, while finishing my undergraduate studies with the intention of matriculating into medical school. To my surprise, after eight long years working in critical care environments, I realized that medicine- while quite good at interceding for folks who were in life threatening situations, had limited answers for helping people who suffered with chronic, degenerative diseases. It was at this point that I realized I needed to look outside the medical paradigm (or way of thinking) and study a more natural approach in order to find the answers for which I was looking.

After earning my doctor of chiropractic degree and studying to become a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, I worked in private practice and continued studying research and scientific findings concerning plant extracts, diets, exercise, toxicity, vitamins and minerals.

To my amazement, I found that there is actually a mountain of reputable scientific data supporting the benefits of many nutritional products, plant extracts and other natural modalities as well as evidence of many manmade dangers that surround us which receive very little, if any attention from the traditional medical community. Not only was there science to back up these not-so-mainstream ideas, but as I quickly began to find in my practice, they actually worked clinically; helping people with a multitude of health issues when applied correctly and in concert with other healthy habits. This led me to design a line of targeted nutritional supplements for use with my patients. Since then, I have been teaching Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology and Chemistry at the college level while furthering my understanding of the origins of disease and natural means of restoring health.

This book is meant to coalesce the accumulated knowledge and clinical experiences of myself and many other natural health practitioners and researchers whose approaches differ from the mainstream, allopathic (medical) paradigm.

I have written this book in a way that will build a foundation of healthy understanding of basic dietary, nutritional and
