Dedication
For Jermane
Without you I would have remained closed off, hiding from myself, and the world. Thank you for daring me to be more… pushing me to be more. I will always love you for being there when I needed you… My continued personal and professional growth is a result of God’s love and grace, and your faith in me…
I see a light shining,
A brilliant light…
A light blind to the power it holds within.
But I feel unworthy.
I tell myself I deserve the darkness…
The Pain,
The hurt,
The hole that I am in.
I don’t deserve this light in my life.
I made these choices,
I must live with them.
But I see this light.
Shining… Reaching out for me…
Daring me to touch it,
Daring me to be embraced by it,
Daring me to step outside of myself and to be more.
The light is you.
God sent you to me, when I needed you most.
Now we will shine together,
And together we will bring our light to the world.
I first met you when I was merely a girl and you were just a young man, just on the brink of adulthood. At that time we were but classmates, and casual associates. I saw then a young man, smart, handsome, caring, and with a bright smile. I did not know you well then, but you were nice to me when many others were not.
Our paths went separate ways for many years. We both experienced life, it’s ups and downs. We experienced joy and pain, love and loss. We became different people.
You came back into my life 17 years later. When you came back into my life we had both grown into very different adults than those children that met so many years ago. You came to me when I was at a pretty low point. When I was close to giving up on love and giving up on life.
You listened to me, when I needed a listening ear, and you talked to me when I just needed someone to take my mind off of my life and the pain I felt. You opened up to me slowly and a little at a time, and soon we became more than just social aquaintances, we became friends.
You helped me to trust again, when I was not sure that I could, when I was not sure that I wanted to. You are an integral part in my life now. You may not be perfect. But you are intelligent, caring, funny, insightful, compassionate, and God minded.
You have challenged me to grow from my pain, and to share my voice with others. To be more than I ever invisioned for myself.
I love the man that you are, and the man that you are becoming. Always have faith in yourself, and let noone deter you from becoming the man that God has placed in you to be.
Preface
2 Corinthians 12:9-10, New International Version (NIV)
But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
In my life I have grown to know pain. I have grown to know disappointment. I have grown to know that
