About this ebook

Sadie has moved to Savannah for the summer. Her Pa has a job building a new harbor. Moving into an abandoned light keeper’s house Pa warned Sadie and Jimmy that the lighthouse was not a safe place to play. They can play in the yard, or they can go into town. However, they were never to go near the lighthouse and never go near the edge of the bluff.

"A fall from the cliff to the rocks below will kill you, and the waves will carry your bones to Davey Jones’ Locker." Pa warned sternly.

Soon Sadie would learn that the house held more secrets. Little brother Jimmy does not care he found a new friend living in his closet.

Aunt Erin knows the secret, but Ma and Pa think it is just a joke.

During the first full moon of October, a storm gathers and Pa’s ship is lost in the fog. Sadie wakes to find the old Lighthouse lit.

“Who’s in the lighthouse?” she wonders.

To Mrs. Jane McCoy, Crawfordsville High School

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank my teachers, especially Mrs. McCoy in Creative Writing, oh so long ago.

This journey began on numerous two-hour drives with granddaughter Olivia. Safely ensconced in the comfort of the back seat we would spin tales of adventure and fantasy. Without her eager audience, this story would not have emerged.

I must also thank Elain and Erin for their editing and suggestions.

Thank you for your patience and guidance, and your red pen.

    The Campout

The full moon shone on the campground. The Brown family had their tent by the creek and the Lee tent was in the trees. Every year the families ended the camping season with a trip to the lake. Pa put away the last of the dishes and doused the fire. Everyone else had headed off to bed. Pa stirred the ashes one more time and headed to his tent. As he approached, he heard voices inside. He thought, That Roger, he won't sleep until he scares my kids with a story. He found Caroline standing outside the tent giggling.

S-h-h, she whispered, Roger is telling a ghost story. Laura wouldn't let him go to his tent without one of his stories.

Pa peeked inside the tent. The girls were snuggled in their beds with Roger sitting on a stool finishing a story. The end! he said.

Laura fumed, "That was not a scary story! Pa told me that one
