    Preface

Through out my life I have been studying and working with people of all ages and from all walks of life. These people have had a number of problems that I have thought about and have written about in this book.

People come into this world with a great deal of expectations and goals. Their parents want their children to be better than they are. Go to college or university and make a better life for themselves.

It is always a struggle for people to get what they truly want out of their physical life. Through out the years, people learn how to live in this world through its many challenges and actually learn more than all the colleges and universities could provide them. Colleges and universities offer an individual the bases for the career that he/she wants to spend the rest of this life working at, but not how to live in this world.

How many people do you know who seem to have a great deal of knowledge? Knowledge that surprises you when you hear what they have to say: knowledge that helps you to be a better person because you have learned the lessons that they have given you.

You will find a few of the articles in this book to be related to these issues. They were written during a time in my life when I was going through a problem and had something to learn. There are several articles that talks about Personal Responsibility. This is a natural law that is extremely important for us and should never be taken lightly.

As I go through life, I learn more and more each day and I’m better able to express myself and help others through the expression of my thoughts and ideas. I hope that you find the articles in this book helpful. I also hope, as you read through this book, that you will learn a few things.

    Chapter 1

    Natural/Spiritual Law

Natural/Spiritual Laws are extremely interesting to read about and get to understand.

There are more than a hundred of these laws, and yet no set number of them. These laws have been in effect since the first man walked this earth. They govern everything and everybody in the universe. Some of the laws are related to the physical world and many, many more are related to the spiritual. Whether physical or spiritual, they are all God’s laws.

Since we are all spiritual beings, all of the laws, physical and spiritual, affect us constantly. They govern our physical world, are physical life and our spiritual life.

The physical and spiritual laws are so intertwined that one affects the other. One of the laws is the Law of Cause and Effect. This law literally determines what happens to us in everything we do and say. There is nothing that this law doesn’t affect. There are several other laws that work together with the Law of Cause and Effect and say, we never get away with anything. If you and I don’t make restitution for our wrong decisions, sins, here during our earth life, we will make restitution for them in the afterlife, and yes, there is an afterlife for all of us.

I teach a course in Natural/Spiritual Law and everyone who has taken the course has enjoyed it. Throughout the course the students began to understand how the laws work. They came to understand that they don’t have to do anything towards people who have wronged them; the laws will take care of the situation.

    Natural Law

Spiritualists, through contact that is made with those that have passed to the other side of life, affirm the interrelatedness of all life. One clue that a person is becoming in tuned and more cosmic is when the egoistic, self-serving portion of the individual diminishes and the universal consciousness comes to the forefront. Prominent in this consciousness is the awareness of the Natural Laws, which are God’s Laws. Some people call them Universal or cosmic Laws, they are the same laws.

God’s laws are changeless, the same as they have ever been. While they are immutable, they are beneficent, for they are good. When we live in conformity with them, they become the very foundation stones on which we build our health, our happiness, our peace and poise, our success and attainment. If we abide fully in God’s law, no evil can befall us. We do not need to be healed. We are every whit whole.

The religion of Spiritualism encourages all humankind to learn and practice living in accordance with God’s Laws. What are these Universal Laws? How many of them are there and do they apply to everyone? Infinite Intelligence (God) is Love, Light and Law. Though many use a certain number of laws as guidelines, there is no set number of laws. Just as love and light are not limited, so the Law is not limited, even as Infinite Intelligence is not limited. Neither does the Law limit those who strive to follow it. Rather, it sets them free and shows them the way to grow, live in peace and be happy.

The study of Natural Law is very beneficial to all. A few brief points to consider are that the laws are just, impartial, consistent, non-judgmental, automatic, immutable, impersonal, affecting the physical, mental and spiritual, is unchangeable and the underlying control of the universe, insuring progressive evolution. Natural Law is the connecting link, providing constant order to the universe. It governs the visible and invisible, the animate and inanimate in the mortal and immortal worlds.

Natural Law is like a kind teacher that understands we learn by doing. The law gently points out our mistakes so that we may grow and use the insight to our benefit. The laws uses the reflecting ethers as a mirror to show us the way. It verifies personal responsibility and individualization.

All things in life interrelate and so it is with the laws. They are evident in mathematics, geometry, mechanics, plant life, seasons, etc. We can use the laws to choose love, light, peace, growth and joy. The universe is propelled by law and impelled by love.

Just a few laws to demonstrate the totality of the Laws:

    The Law of Desire

    The Law of Harmony

    The Law of Mind

The Law of Cause and Effect

    The Law of Vibration

    The Law of Passivity

    The Law of Thought

The Law of Supply and Demand

    The Law of Love

    The Law of Life/Light

    The Law of Compensation/ Retribution

    The Law of Adhesion/Cohesion

    The Law of Evolution

    The Law of Continuity

    The Golden Rule

    The Law of Attraction/Affinity

    The Law of Cooperation

    The Law of Balance/Polarity

    The Law of Cycles/Periodicity

    The Law of Gravitation

As the seeker strives to understand Natural Law, he/she are presented with the truths of the universe. God’s Law is immutable and we know of no instances that it has been set aside. Therefore, there are no miracles, for all is in accordance with the operation of the Spiritual Laws. Infinite Intelligence has given us these constructive, progressive patterns to guide our existence now and forever more. The God of the Universe impregnates the spirit of all, and then lets it alone to discover itself through light, love and law. As we learn more of these laws, we learn more of Infinite Intelligence. Emerson wrote, The finite alone has wrought and suffered, the Infinite lies stretched in smiling repose. The Infinite Spirit within us shows us the way to shine. (From the NSAC website)

Formula for all life: a quote from Neal Donald Welsch’s book Home With God, The formula for all life:

"Hope is the doorway to belief,

Belief is the doorway to creation,

Creation is the doorway to experience."

"Experience is the doorway to expression,

Expression is the doorway to becoming,

Becoming is the doorway to activity of all life

and the only function of God."

What you hope for, you will eventually believe,

What you believe, you will eventually know,

What you know, you will eventually create,

What you create, you will eventually express,

What you express, you will eventually become.

    Spiritual/Natural Laws in Action

When people take into account the Law of Personal Responsibility and practice their freewill in light of personal responsibility, pride is no longer a part of the equation. The Law of Personal Responsibility is a primary natural law that can guide us in life and on our spiritual path. Accepting the law of personal responsibility wipes out self-pity, resignation, passive endurance, smoldering resentments against the injustices of life, and the masochistic game of harping on one’s case against life.

Yet this apparently hard law is the most hopeful, encouraging, liberating and strengthening the truth of all truths. It enables us to resolve whatever problem we may have. It opens up life with all its rich possibilities. It forces us to see things in their true light and, uncomfortable as this may first seem, it leaves us with a lot more self-respect, integrity, and hope than the helpless resignation to circumstances life is supposed to bring about. It makes defeat unnecessary because it also removes, among other things, our childish illusion of omnipotence, which is just as unrealistic as the illusion of being life’s passive victim. Accepting our own limitations and the limitations of others increases our power to direct our life meaningfully.

Practicing personal responsibility automatically directs us to practice the Golden Rule, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. The Law of Personal Responsibility changes our life in a way that will amaze us and all who know us. We are no longer looking at the negative things in our lives that we have complained about for years. We understand that making decisions that are for our highest good are decisions that make things in our lives more positive. We are better able to cope with all kinds of problems because we no longer speak before 'putting our mouth in gear'. Yes, we far too often speak before we do a proper thinking about exactly what it is we want to say. When we take time to think, we are taking personal responsibility for our thoughts and actions and actions often speak louder than words. (105 Spiritual Laws)

We often think; we got away with that. But in reality we didn’t get away with anything for natural law tells us that no one gets away with anything. Whether it is a thought, an action or doing nothing at all – the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Karma and the Law of Thought tells us that everything in our life depends on our thoughts and actions.

This statement says to me that a person should be careful as to what he/she thinks, does and says, because it may be taken all wrong by others. This will present a problem and the problem can mean the difference between getting along with people or being despised and rejected by them – a friendship lost. This may not have been what was intended, but it can happen.

It may be necessary to apologize to the other people in order to correct the problem before the friendship is totally destroyed. What does it take for a person to apologize even if he/she believes that they have not done anything wrong? Just a few words! Just a few words, will melt away the problem and sets things right. Taking personal responsibility for ones action will save a friendship and the friendship will continue.

However, some people’s pride is so strong that nothing can be done to correct a problem. They see other people’s actions as a personal attack on them and they must act – sometimes violently.

The Bible tells us not to judge others, but to always give others the benefit of the doubt – do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. Prideful people have to eventually come to terms with their thoughts and actions and change their way so that they do not suffer the consequences. Remember the Laws of Nature are always working in our life and we will suffer the consequences of our thoughts and actions here or here after.

The Law of Continuity tells us that life is continuous and we take with us to the next life all our wrong thinking and actions done here in this physical life. We WILL make restitution in one way or another for our wrong thought and actions. It would be better for us to take personal responsibility
