    Chapter 1

    Isabella

Her life had not always been blissful but they were making it, finally. No one knew what ups and downs meant like she and her husband did. She always told him that if they could make it through the hard times they would be together forever. She was sure that those hard times were her test from God and that they had survived it together, and would survive everything thrown at them, together. It was also clear that things could have been much worse. Although, her and her husband had their struggles life could have been much harder and not filled with as many blessing as she had. After all she had met the man of her dreams, her soul mate, and love of her life. Together they had created life, started their own family. She couldn’t help but smile as she remembered when they found out they were expecting.

I think I need to take a test! Isabella bolted up in bed out of a deep sleep, and jolted Will out of his deep sleep. Did you hear me? She asked again.

A test? Will asked through the fog of sleep, as he yawned and stretched his legs allowing reality to slowly settle on him.

Yes, a test! Isabella said panic growing evident in her tone.

Okay what class is this test in? He asked adoring the way his girlfriend freaked out about any test she took in college. He knew how smart she was and knew she could ace any test without trying, but it was still cute to watch her flip out. He wanted to reach out to her and pull her back into him so they could go back to sleep, but she was already starting to get out of bed.

Not a test for class! A test, test!

What? What test, test are you talking about? Will asked slightly confused.

You know a TEST she responded stressing every syllable, and looking at him with all seriousness that could only convey one type of test. He didn’t think it was quite that time for that dreadful time of the month to put a damper on his sex life. He didn’t like to admit that he knew her time of the month was the last week of the month, but hey when the last week of the month meant no sex because she wouldn’t let him touch her because as she put it it was just too gross, he couldn’t help but see that blasted  week as his most hated week of the month. Not to mention he needed to be prepared with something sweet every day of that week, and God forbid if he said anything stupid. That week made him want to groan, But you’re not late.

    Well…no… but I just have a feeling!

Bells, please stop stressing. It is probably nothing. You are not even late and you are on the pill.

Please go get me a test… She said turning her deep golden brown eye on full blaze that suckered him into doing whatever he did not want to do. He sighed as he looked at her. He loved the way her long dark brown haired surrounded her face. Even more so during the spring and summer when her skin was kissed by the sun making her skin look shades darker. He knew he had already lost but he had to try at least for the sake of his manhood.

    No way!

    Come on please.

    We can do it together.

Fine let’s go. She jumped out of bed and didn’t bother to change out of her pajamas and dashed out to the    car. She could hear Will laugh as she shut the door. She fidgeted in the car as she waited, and didn’t stop until they had gotten back to the apartment with a box of five tests.

Can I take my shower now? Will asked as she ran to the bathroom. Still trying to figure out why in the hell she needed five test. Didn’t one say pregnant or not. Who needs five test?

Yea sure She responded in her distant reading voice. Will shook his head and started the shower. He was so sure she was not going to be pregnant that he could not help but think her new found over dramatic reaction was hilarious. He began to shower and smiled at himself as he heard her pacing back and forth. Finally, he heard the pacing stop and then nothing. He peaked out of the shower and saw her face. That was all the answer he needed. He felt his legs go weak and had to sit down. Isabella without a word opened another test and took it again. He guessed she got the same result because he heard her grab her phone.

Tori, I need you to come over right now! I will explain everything when you get here just please, please hurry. With the panic in her voice he was sure her best friend would be over in minutes.

Isabella had seen the look on Will’s face and was sure he knew what the test said, but she was into much shock, or maybe disbelief to speak. She was so relieved when her best friend got there. The words flowed from her lips without thinking, I need you to take a pregnancy test. I think this box is defective! Isabella said as she rushed her best friend to the bathroom handing her a test. The look on her friends face compelled her to explain a little further.

Mine keeps saying pregnant, I need to know if it can say not pregnant or if maybe the not is just broken on this batch. Please just take the test. All you have to do is pee right her. She said pointing the end of the stick.  Her friend complied knowing this wasn’t the moment to laugh.

Wouldn’t it be funny if it says pregnant too? Victoria asked trying to make light of the situation, after she had peed on the stick and they were waiting in an unbearable silence, but Isabella’s face said it was not time for jokes. All she could think was please, please make these test broken. I still have college and my sorority and I need to get a job. I have dreams and goals and I’m not ready to be a mom! Three minutes later Victoria’s test results were in and the stick defiantly knew how to say not pregnant. With that confirmation Isabella walked numbly over to sit on the sofa, next to Will, whom she realized had been parked there since he got out of the shower. She peaked at him to see if he was still breathing. She didn’t know how long they all sat there, but when life slowly touched them again Isabella had made up her mind and was ready for whatever laid ahead of her, she just hoped Will was in it for the ride.

Time flew by. A week later they had told their parents, gotten engaged, and were planning a wedding. Later she would find out that Will had already asked her dad for her hand in marriage, and already had her ring. Her wedding wasn’t quite the destination wedding she had always dreamed of, but it was full of color and fit her personality.

Mrs. Wiseheart? Isabella heard her name and was pulled from her thoughts at the warm touch on her shoulder. She looked up as the world filled her eyesight once again. She realized she had been staring afraid to blink because it would start the flow of tears again. She would rather the burning feeling over crying helplessly.

Can I get you anything? Isabella thought how silly that question truly was, she thought yea you can rewind time, but just shook her head silently.

When she had arrived at the hospital no one would tell her anything. She had been brought to a room and told to wait for the doctor, that he would be with her in a minute. All the nurses walked past the room had that look in their eyes, that look of pity. That look only made her stomach sink further into her gut. While she was waiting a police officer had come into the room. She thought she would be glad to see a friendly face but when she looked in Bryson’s eyes she knew it wasn’t going to be good news.

Bells… Was all he said as he took a seat next to her.

Why are you here? Will doesn’t go on duty until tomorrow night. She said slightly confused.

Have they told you anything? Bryson asked ignoring her question.

Nothing. Why? Do you know what’s going on? she asked not trying to hide the panic. They told me that Will had been in an accident and that I needed to come to the hospital. When I got here they told me to wait in this room. That he had just arrived ten minutes prior to my arrival and the doctors were working on him.

I was the officer on duty, Bells I was at the scene of the accident. Bryson said finally meeting her eyes, Bells it was bad. He took her trembling hand trying his best to be there for his best friend’s girl.

    Wh..What happened?

A drunk driver veered into his lane and hit him head on. His car was totaled and it didn’t look good. There was another car involved that driver died on impact along with the drunk driver. The other passenger might have survived had he been wearing his seatbelt. As Isabella listened to Bryson tell her what had occurred she realized she was thankful he was the no bullshit type of guy. The rest of the force is outside and they would like to come wait with you, but we understand if you wish to be alone. Isabella did not realize she had started to cry until she tasted the salty tears on her lips.

Of course they can come in. Would you mind calling his parents? I did not call them...I just couldn’t...I don’t know what to tell them. Also, my parents have Hayden can you get them to bring him here? She said trying to take on an all business tone. She hoped she sounded as strong as she knew she needed to be. After all having strength was vital to being a police officer’s wife.

We can go get his parents and yours. Bryson said stepping outside to talk to the crowd of officers. The room was filled with officers and had a strong smell of burnt coffee. The officers paced from one group to another keeping a silent murmur. The murmur kept the stillness of silence out of the room.. With everyone surrounding her, the wait seemed to fly by.

Mrs. Wiseheart? A young doctor asked bringing the room to silence instantly. Isabella handed her five year old son back to her parents, who took Hayden out of the room, and she stood to greet the doctor. Miss would you like to do this privately? The doctor asked in a too caring voice. She felt her ribs take a massive blow by the pity that was released by his voice. She grabbed on to Bryson’s arm and shook her head. Okay, the doctor continued, "Will’s injuries were very
