    Notes

    Foreword

Trapped By Your Salary, get The Job Of Your Dreams in 12 simple steps.  That's a big statement to make, however having read the book I can say that ‘it does what it says on the tin’ (or in this case front cover). Fantastic!

I have read your book cover to cover in an e-world. I don't have a kindle and I'm therefore not that great with e-books and to a certain extent this frustrated me. I wanted to have this book in my hand - to smell the new pages waiting for my thoughts, my dreams, and my challenges. And I wanted to write all over it in the pages provided just for this. How wonderful not to have to write in tiny writing in the margin and instead to have a whole great chunk of book dedicated to thoughts, dedicated to feelings, dedicated to me.

And there is an endless wealth of information and knowledge sharing that will motivate, entertain and educate the reader for many weeks on his journey to the dream job.

The book is jam-packed with practical tips and ideas too. Of course it is a question of trying them on and seeing what fits. There are plenty to choose from so it’s up to the reader to explore this - they might be surprised at what they find if they open themselves up to all possibilities.

Trapped By Your Salary to The Job of Your Dreams - Karen and Francine have it covered and will support you every step of the way.

They show you how a dream-job-conception to interview, and beyond can become a reality.  Their step by step workbook unfolds to become a reference book you will want to treasure for many years to come.

    Karen’s Story

I can clearly remember walking home from school one lunchtime, I was living in a new town in Buckinghamshire, I was with three school friends; we were talking about what we wanted to be when we left school. One wanted to be a nurse, her mum and sisters were nurses and it was a natural talent for their family. She did indeed become a nurse and she continues to be an esteemed leader in her now specialised field of nursing. Another was to join the army to become a chef (we spent his 16th birthday celebrating his last evening with us before the left).  He became my daughter’s godfather. The third, as I recall, was to become a forensic pathologist, we have since lost touch. She may be Trapped By Her Salary, she may be very happy. When I think of her I always wish her well.

For my part, I was going to be a psychologist or a psychiatrist even though I didn’t know the difference at the time. All I knew was that I wanted to help people to Think Better so they could Do Better and therefore ultimately Have Better.

Of course, my then teenage self didn’t know about the real world or if it was possible to earn a living helping people think, do and have better. So I travelled the traditional route of college, paid employment, taking professional qualifications and paying the rent.

In my 20s I became a single parent and I still didn’t know if I could earn a living doing what I loved. I was continuing to go through the motions, good salary, £1m+ annual targets, company car, mortgage, stage school fees and so on.

I too have been Trapped By My Salary.

But it wasn’t my love. My own personal time was spent in the world of personal development because it spoke to me, it made me happy and I knew that if I was ever going to be happy in my work I would need to get out of the job I was in. So I did. 2004, cold turkey, I became self-employed. I do not recommend this route.

I have done many things since then (including a stint of going back to my previous industry as an employee) and including quite often getting in my own way.

I tell you this because I am now doing the work I love and am no longer Trapped By My Salary. I have taken all my experience, and that of others and successfully created a format to help people Get That Job, The Job Of Their Dreams, so that you do not, go cold turkey, return forlorn to your previous industry, or get in your own way.

The path has been made clear for you to move easily and seamlessly, a step at a time, from being Trapped By Your Salary to The Job Of Your Dreams.

    Francine’s Story

As a child, I always had a dream that one day I would be a celebrated actress. I worked hard and took every opportunity to polish my skills.  I entered festivals and won prizes for performance and speaking before leaving school and heading off to Drama College in Edinburgh. Even then, I saw the enormous benefits that drama skills and techniques like visualisation and role play, could bring to people.  So, while I was keen to act, I never missed an opportunity to use my newly emerging skills to work with and empower others.

While at college I worked as a volunteer running drama groups for people who were experiencing mental health issues.  The techniques were positive and useful in giving people space
