    Part 1: Self-Discovery

Life is simple when we allow it to be.

    Origin

We cannot hope to dismantle any deep-rooted problems until we clearly understand what the cause is. — Geshe Tashi Tsering

Many people often forget and/or pay very little attention to or show minimal to no appreciation to their beginnings. Many times, the value of our past experiences is overlooked. Even more so, many people don’t acknowledge that who they are is a result of all they have gone through and experienced. But, why? Is it because of the judgments that we or others make towards our beginnings? Maybe it’s because for many of us, our beginnings were less favorable than maybe we would have liked. Maybe there were bad decisions made or good decisions not made or difficult circumstances or situations not created out of your own doing that had to be overcome and therefore are resented. Whatever the reasons, the possibilities are limitless, especially when considering how we see our beginnings is all a matter of our own perceptions.

Discovering yourself involves appreciating your origins, no matter what they are. It is in this appreciation that a sense of pride, dignity, confidence and courage can be harvested and applied throughout your life in a focused and positive manner. This is due to the fact that no matter what the experiences of your past have been, you are still standing and able to write the rest of your story however you’d like to.

Often times, there are many negative lingering effects leftover from our beginnings that stay with us throughout our lives from having had less than favorable experiences or from decisions and choices made or not made, for example. Eventually you will begin to be able to shake off the shackles that negative past experiences and circumstances have created when you choose to accept them for what they are worth, pluck out the positives, acknowledge the opportunities that were created because of them and use them to your advantage. This is especially useful when you find yourself in a position of counsel. Tapping into your own personal experiences and sharing and guiding someone through theirs is one of the greatest ways to appreciate your origin and heal from it.

Fortunate to Have Been So Unfortunate.

For years, I worked under the title of Career Specialist. It was in this position that my primary duties were to help incoming participants reach high levels of success in life, employment and in education. I held this position throughout my early 20’s. With most of my clients being at least double my age, I was frequently met with an age bias during the initial interviews. It was because of this that I developed a saying that seemed to break down the barriers almost immediately. I would tell people I have been fortunate enough to have been so unfortunate early on in life. I shared the statement to make it clear that I too, had faced many unfavorable circumstances and situations but had learned to make the best out of them and created my own favorable outcomes and was prepared to help them do the same.

Choosing to have and maintain a positive disposition in regards to how you view your origin story and all you’ve encountered in it will allow you to rid yourself of any guilt, shame or depression. On the path to complete freedom from illusion, deception and suffering; it is in your best interest to uncover the origins of the issues you are plagued with today by tapping in to your powers of observation in tandem with honest reflection, proper judgement and accurate thought.

If you are a person who grew up in or suffered through less than favorable conditions and have therefore become more vulnerable to certain types of attacks of depression, anxiety or stress and have had a tough time dumping the baggage; consider this: life is too short to allow your past realities to affect your present disposition or future one you have yet to actualize. Even if you weren’t one of the people Ernest Hemingway had in mind when he said, Some people are stronger in broken places, your time can be now! You cannot continue to allow yourself to be your own present cause of grief. Never take away from your own happiness. Exercise your demons by sweating them, don’t let them sweat
