In this book, The Power of Meditative Thinking, Rev Bode Akindele clearly shows us that a great leader is a great thinker and a great thinker is a great leader. It is true that thinking is hard-work because it involves the discipline of creating time for solitude and capturing thoughts in a busy world, yet no successful accomplishment is possible without deep thinking. This book will open you up to the world of thinking.  It will impact our microwave generation and the generations to come.

The advancement that will lead our present world out of disorder and chaos will also be birthed only by those who have received the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ. It is to those minds that this work is targeted.

By and large, all great thinkers proffer solutions to human needs and solutions to valued problems. Thinking is rich and a gift from God, but deep and resourceful thinking requires discipline on the part of man. Bode captures this essence succinctly with relevant passages from the scripture and examples of great thinkers, both from the world of classical thinkers and contemporary achievers.

    FOREWORD

The rains had started and folks came to church on this particular Sunday morning during the rainy season with their umbrellas. Everyone dropped their umbrellas at the lobby before entering into the sanctuary to join other saints to worship God.

The service was soon over and everyone came to identify and fetch his or her own specific and respective umbrella. Several umbrellas looked alike and this posed a big challenge.

Apart from the challenge of each person identifying their own umbrella, the whole lobby was also wet with the water draining from the many umbrellas. The floor became slippery and even messy, posing a big risk to children and the elderly in particular.

    What is the way out?

Someone came up with a suggestion: ‘Let us pray that God would not allow rain to fall on Sundays. This will hopefully, solve the twin problems of umbrella identification and a wet and slippery lobby’.

Another person quipped, ‘If it doesn’t rain on Sundays, the twin problems would be solved in church on Sundays quite alright; but what about Mondays to Fridays? Won’t people still need their umbrellas when they go to work Mondays through Fridays? Will the same problems not occur week in week out at the lobbies of various offices across the country? Should we then go ahead to pray to pray that it would not rain seven days a week?

Of course, that would create an even bigger problem – drought, hunger, a national crisis, and so on.

So, what would be a more plausible solution?

Someone then thought of a better idea – a device, an invention, that would afford all umbrella owners who arrive at public facilities to slot in their folded umbrella and lock it in, holding the key with a unique number that would help identify their respective umbrellas whenever they wanted to leave the facility.

The added advantage would also be that no one could steal someone’s umbrella because the umbrella would be locked in a place and would only be released when the key is put in to unlock it.

Also, the device would have a water-collecting base into which water from the umbrellas would drain to prevent the lobby from getting slippery. Thus, this device would solve three problems all at once. Simple, but functional idea. Today, that device is already in the market: the product of someone’s quality and productive thinking.

This is the sort of thing that Dr. Bode Akindele has expounded upon in The Power of Meditative Thinking. The whole idea of deploying the power of quality thoughts is a very fundamental concept in human and global development. Imagine where the world would be today if nobody thought deeply!

Meditative thinking has transformed the face of the globe and the way we do things in the world today, compared to a few decades ago.

There was a time when we posted letters at the Post Office and waited for days, if not weeks, to get a reply. Today, e-mails, text messages, WhatsApp and other Social Media platforms have made this possible in split seconds. It is the product of someone’s deep thinking.

If all of us would grasp what the author has elaborated upon in this book and we would begin from today to engage in this art, life would definitely keep getting better and businesses would be transacted at the speed of light. New inventions would emerge almost every second; national economies would be bolstered, and what was once considered
