Introduction
For every success, there is a secret, just as every product requires a process. Most average and failed students once had the dream of becoming a highly successful student but unfortunately, never had the secrets. Lack of these secrets is what results to the high rate of school drop outs, academically underperformed students, unemployable graduates, and most at times, students spending more than the required number of years in school. You might wonder how extremely brilliant students in your class attain the level and frequency that they operate on. The truth is not farfetched; they have these secrets at their finger tips. When I secured admission into the university, I dreamt and determined to attain that high level of academic success just as every other student does. In quest for the salient academic success secrets, I searched through the bookstores and libraries within, in order to find a good book that would serve as a guide. I surfed the internet but no such book existed. I asked questions from fellow students (especially from students in higher classes) but was unable to get good response. Then I decided to read everything that I could find on the subject; everything from newspaper columns, online threads and articles, online forum chats, first class success stories and magazine articles. To the glory of God, my dream came to fruition. Today, there are thousands of students who languish in that same plight. For this cause, I have compiled all the First Class secrets that will serve as a guide to every student, not only for first class aspirants but to every student that needs an improvement in his academic performance and I earnestly wish you make good use of it.
In the preparation of this book, I have read and re-read everything on the subject that I could find both online on the internet and offline. Everything from the online discussion rooms, forum chats, blogs, online articles, newspaper columns. In addition to this, I have successfully carried out one on one interview with dozens of first class, successful, average and below average students across different universities to discover their secrets. The secrets outlined here are not mere theories or guess work, they work like magic!
#1 Secret
Take a decision
With my years of experience in students’ advisory, I have discovered that greater percentage of students is indecisive on what they want. They allow the wind toss them the way it wills. Quite only few percentage wish for academic success, alas, fail to take proactive steps in its realization. Friend, you are where you are and what you are because of your own choices and decisions. What does it takes a man to make a decision (which is the horse a man rides into fame or shame). Absolutely nothing! Decision is the greatest gift that God has endowed mankind with and every student ought to make a very good use of it. Because, the day you make a decision about your life is the day your world will change and I will like you to buy Dr. Mike Murdock’s saying, that, you will never leave where you are until you decide where you will rather be.
Every successful students start with the decision to achieve academic success (it doesn’t come by chance). It is high time you take your own decision. Albeit, we do have different, specific academic decisions which yours could be to become the best student in your unit, or the best student in your department, or the best student in your faculty, or the best student in the school. Your decision also, could be to score the highest or lowest mark in your course works, assignments, tests, practical and exams. One or combination of these and many others that you can think of is what motivates greater percentage of the first class students or the academically excelling students. It is quite important and inevitable that any student who wishes to graduate with first class should sit down and think from within (winning doesn’t start around you, it begins inside), and decide on what he really want from the university at the end of his academic program for today’s decisions are tomorrow’s realities. Do you wish to graduate as an average student? You need a total CGPA of 3.50/5.00, as the best student in your unit? You need a CGPA of 4.50/5.00, as the best student in your department? You need a CGPA of 4.70/00, and if you wish to graduate as the best student in the faculty, you might need a CGPA of 4.90/5.00, as the overall best graduating student in your school, you will need a CGPA of 4.90-5.00/5.00. This day, I implore you to make your decision. Set your standard. Sleep over it. Review it. And then, set your goals.
#2 secret
Set your goals
Goal is the force that drives persons towards the road of success and the most important thing in life is to have a great goal and work tirelessly towards achieving it. What is a goal you might ask? A goal is the result that you attempt to achieve or accomplish within a particular or specific period of time while goal setting is the act or process of setting a goal or a target. Since you cannot score a goal without a goal post, it is of paramount importance that every student that thirsts for academic success should set a goal which could be short-term or long-term goal depending on the period of time in which the set goal is to be met.
It is also important to note that, the qualities of a good goal should include, that, it must be specific, attainable, time dependent and most importantly be put into black and white because until you commit your goals to paper, you have intentions that are seeds without soil. The written goals should be pasted
