Description

One of the most basic beliefs we carry about ourselves has to do with how we view our personality. You may have heard your child say something along the lines of, “Oh, I’m just not a math person,” or, “Organization isn’t my thing.” You may even recognize these types of attitudes in yourself. This is what’s known as a “fixed mindset,” a concept that originated in the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck.
Dr. Maggie Wray is an ICF-certified Academic Life Coach and ADHD coach, with a Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behavior from Cornell and a Bachelor’s in Astrophysics from Princeton. She is passionate about helping students develop the skills they need to be successful in life, and believes that many of the skills that are most essential to students’ long-term life success are not being taught in school. In 2012, she founded Creating Positive Futures to help students develop the executive functioning skills, mindset, and study skills they need to excel in school but are often not learning in the classroom. Her unique coaching programs combine research-based strategies about neurobiology and the psychology of learning with the lessons she learned as a student at two Ivy League universities and her experiences teaching and coaching hundreds of teens over the past 10 years.
