About this ebook
False Value is the eighth book in the Sunday Times bestselling series, Rivers of London. Written by Hugo-nominated author Ben Aaronovitch, critics say that it's like reading Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. The Times noted that it is a testament to why the Rivers of London series has sold over two million copies worldwide.
The book takes us into a place where magic gets a 21st-century makeover. Simultaneously, fantasy and technology collide in the streets of London. Peter Grant navigates through a labyrinth of ancient mysteries that answers the lingering questions until our present day, a secret that is just as dangerous as magic and technology combined. Delve into the deep domain of computers, numbers, panic, suspense, and enthusiasm. The twists and turns give us the perfect blend of urban fantasy and procedural drama in the fast-paced world of modern crime and investigation. Take a closer look at the clash between authority, cultures and traditions, and new magic users. It's a razor-sharp commentary about societal diversity and the power struggle.
Suspended from the London Metropolitan Police, Peter Grant will have to face one of the biggest challenges – parenthood. As he anticipates the prospect of being a father, Peter is now in a somewhat unlikely situation – he's interviewing for a position in Serious Cybernetics Corporation. Aaronovitch showcases his trademark style of wit and humor. At the same time, readers get insights into our wizard-trainee/detective's personal life and relationship with a hormonal river goddess who bears his children.

Introducing False Value
The adventures of Rivers of London's leading man are not yet over. On the contrary, Peter Grant's responsibilities are piling high. He needs to live with his river goddess girlfriend, find a good-paying job, deal with new magic users, investigate the strange crimes happening in his workplace, and prepare to become a father of twins.
The story's structure is quite different from the previous books in the series. It seems that the series also took a significant turn as Peter Grant faces a momentous crossroads in his life. The story begins with a fine-tuning of the whole narrative and takes the readers back to the basics. Therefore, first-time readers of the series can just jump in and still get a good grasp of the constructed world inside Rivers of London. None of the antagonists from previous books will appear. The book further explores the magical world background, giving new readers insights into what happened in the past. Almost everything is new in the book:
new job
new life
a new perspective
new shenanigans
the apparent change of tone on the effects of magic to people and society at large
In short: this is new territory for Rivers of London fans.
It is full of winding narratives that engage the readers by withholding information. The story structure itself is one of the reasons why the whole thing is more exciting to read. Each revelation is valuable to find a new clue, which leads to another set of closed doors waiting to be opened. With his unpredictable style, Aaronovitch shows his respect for readers who want to get involved in the mystery-solving process. Critical pieces of information are sprinkled all over the book. And you will surely see the big picture soon enough as you continue looking for more clues within each page. Once the whole
