About this ebook

A Stolen Life: A Memoir by Jaycee Dugard: Conversation Starters

A Stolen Life: A Memoir is Jaycee Lee Dugard’s gripping narration of her time in captivity after being abducted by Phillip and Nancy Garrido. The book is a detailed account of her life during this period, which lasted for eighteen years. Dugard wrote the memoir as part of her therapy and also because of her desire to expose the Garridos and not protect them any longer as she was forced to do during her capture.
A Stolen Life was published on the 12th  of July, 2011 by Simon & Schuster. It quickly became a hit and made it to the bestseller lists of The New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, and Audible.

Even as she tried to escape with all her might, she was immediately grabbed and pushed into the car, which then quickly fled from the scene.

Dugard was initially kept handcuffed in a shed behind Garrido’s house and was raped for the first time a week after being kidnapped. She vividly described her horrifying ordeal and went on to say that her sexual abuse became a regular occurrence over the years. She was only able to deal with the trauma by accepting the situation and giving in to Garrido’s advances to keep him pleased. Apart from constant fear, a deep sense of ennui took over her. She felt lonely and despondent, as there was nobody to interact with other than Garrido, and even he was only with her for short periods of
