K for Kara 8 - The New Club - Line Kyed Knudsen

The Last Day at the Club

It is Kara’s last day at the club. Tomorrow, everyone from the third grade is going to go to a new club: The club for the big kids. Kara is looking forward to it, but she is also a bit nervous. Luckily, everyone from her class is going together. They already arranged it.

Today, they are sitting at the big table at the club and eating cake. It’s a bit sad that it is the last time.

I am going to miss you so much, Julie says constantly. She has hugged all the teachers at least twice.

Kara looks out at the schoolyard. She is going to miss that, too. There is no schoolyard at the new club. Only trampolines and a football field.

Finally, it is time to say goodbye. Julie is crying, Rose is quiet, and Kara just wants to leave before she begins to cry. It is so weird that they will never go back to the club. It feels like the ending of a whole life, and something new is about to begin. Kara looks up to the sky and breathes deeply. She does not think she is big enough for the new club. There are a lot of older kids.
