The best of times, the worst of times. Mostly, Stephanie just wants more company than an English literature classic and French silk pie.

Miriam F. Martin

Miriam F. Martin grew up wanting to be a cam girl, but excessive stage fright killed the dream. Her passion for getting strangers off over the wild worldwide web hasn’t died yet. So she focuses her time writing smutty books for smart people, like you. When not writing erotica, she also writes science fiction and fantasy. Her hobbies include playing the guitar badly, misinterpreting the future with Tarot cards, and over-analyzing dreams. She also enjoys first-person shooters, rogue-likes, and hidden object games. Her quest in life is to have a house full of cats. Miriam loves to hear from her fans, and she may be contacted through her agent, David Anthony Brown, at: david (at) danthonybrown (dot) com

Stephanie sank lower into the restaurant booth, the vinyl seat squeaking underneath her butt. Her blind date wasn't coming. At this point, she no longer cared, and that was okay.

The smells of pancakes, maple syrup, and hot apple pie made her stomach growl loud enough to be heard from the parking lot. The waitress, obviously knowing full well what the situation was, kept stopping by, asking if Stephanie might like a refill of coffee or a slice of French silk on the house. She declined both, not wanting the need to pee right as the dude (maybe) showed up, and definitely not wanting pity.

A hardcover edition of A Tale of Two Cities sat in front of her like a useless brick. She cracked open the cover to the first page and immediately got a reminder why she flunked out of English Lit in college.

The book was meant for Tom, so he could recognize her. He'd have a purple carnation for her--Stephanie insisted on that rather than a red freaking rose.

Romance? Who needed romance? Mostly, she just hoped to get laid. Short of that, a free pie would hit the spot.

Even if the waitress was the one offering. The pie, of course.

Stephanie sighed, waving the waitress over. She took another coffee and the French silk.

And to think, she wore her favorite blue dress,
