About this ebook
Sammy and Mr Mean is a childrens story about a wild alpha vervet male monkey and a young Samango monkey, Sammy who lived with a family until he was four years old. He was never caged and was free to wander around the house and garden. His friends were a troop of wild monkeys that visited nearly every day. Sammy and the two and three year old vervets got into so much trouble. They unpegged the washing off the line. Sammy, who was very clever would open all the cupboards and drawers so that the vervets could help themselves to bread, biscuits, fruit and vegetables and eggs. Sammy and his friends ran off with toothbrushes, pens, pencils, in fact anything that looked interesting, and Sammy was the ringleader. Sammy now lives in a forest in northern South Africa where he is totally free.

Sammy is a Samango monkey who spent his first six years with a human family. His mom was eaten as bush meat and he arrived at the centre when he was only two days old. He has since been released back into a forest where he spends his days happily racing through the trees, eating wild berries, leaves and nuts, safely back in the wild, a wild creature, with no human contact anymore.
The incidents portrayed in the Sammy books are all based on actual events that happened while he was with his human family. He lived in a rehabilitation centre for vervet monkeys where he spent his days in the trees above the enclosures. Being with a human family, his ability to problem solve was extensively developed. Nothing was safe. He could open any door, window, cupboard or drawer. He seemed to think that he was responsible for feeding every and all wild creatures. Fridges were opened and lettuce was given to the tortoises, eggs were give the wild vervets as well
