Chapter 1. The Trip to Town
Saskia, Sara
mother was calling around the house looking for her two 6-year-old daughters. Never around when I need them
she muttered to herself. Saskia, Sara
she called again and heard a giggle from behind the curtain in the room. Walking quietly over there she yanked back the curtain to see her twin daughters huddled together trying not to laugh. So, there you are, I have been calling you for hours
Not really hours
they chorused, they always seemed to speak together which irritated their mother so. Well, whatever you didn't answer the first time I called. I have an errand for you to do. I have run out of flour so take the truck and go to the store and get me a bag of flour
.
The girls liked the idea and ran off to get their coats, it could get cold here in the forest even in summer. Mind you if they didn't want to go, they would have found all the reasons in the world why they shouldn't go. But it was an adventure walking the two miles to town and seeing all the people there, they didn't see many people in their part of the forest. So, in no time at all they were on their way pulling the truck, it was basically a wooden box with 4 small wooden wheels and a piece of rope at the front to pull it with. Suddenly Sara jumped into the truck, I don't feel like walking today so you can pull me along
Saskia stopped turned around and said with a pout You always want to ride I think it’s my turn now, so get out and pull
Sara made a grimace and looked at her sister, you could see that she was thinking what was the best course of action. I know you just pull until we get to the road and then I will pull you all the way to town
she said this knowing that once they got to the road it was mostly downhill. Saskia thought for a moment and although she knew what her sister was up to, after all they are identical twins, she agreed.
She pulled the truck to the edge of the road and then got into the truck, OK It’s your turn now
..
color1Sara got out of the truck and pulled it onto the road and started along a small slope, so it was easy, but then she jumped into the truck. it from inside with the piece of rope 1qSaskia yelled and looked in horror as they took off down the hill with Sara trying to guide
The truck gathered speed and even Sara began to wish she hadn't started it. Faster and faster the truck went, and they even began to think it might be a good idea, until the bend! The truck didn't go around the bend despite all their efforts and they shot off the road and into a ditch. Unfortunately, the ditch was full of water, so they landed with a great big splash!
Struggling to pull themselves out of the ditch they then pulled out the truck which luckily was not damaged. Then they looked at each other’s dirty clothes and wet hair and burst out laughing. That was good
they both said together, But next time we had better know how to go around corners
said Sara.
For the rest of the way they decided to both pull the truck and avoid any more accidents.
