    Untimely Mysteries - Gladys Moore

    CHAPTER ONE

She fought so hard to keep her bond tight. Every shade round the corner was either blur or sharp. It became sharp when her determination arose like the lioness in the jungle. Her heart has always been that way. The sounds of the birds chirping in and out the window slide.

Sandy now having a full-grown protruding belly. It covered her legs like she was never going to walk again. Before this time, she had strolled every corner of the town Hall Street. Its brightness attracted her. Her regrets forever having to multiply in the house had always laid store in her thoughts that she cried her eyes out alone. Silently she would cry, wiping her tears when the knock on the door freezes her to smile forcefully. Three days to full delivery, her belly pinched. Who pinched me? She would scream in pain. Zina would jump right on time at the sound of her voice. Have you forgotten you are alone in this room? Unconscious of Zina's presence her shouting became worse per second. Her eyes wailed out. Obviously, Zina was inexperienced to know sandy was in labour. Her hands beckoned on Zina. Her mind’s eye was about doing something so terrible. Zina draws near at the direction her hands went. His slowly and subtle walk suspects some decide and cruelty from Sandy. Her hands still supporting her waist, kneeling barely. Her butt resisted the smooth silky mattress. Lifting up her hands, leaving her waist was a resounding slap. So insensitive of Zina not to recognize her pain. Obviously, you are inexperienced and I understand that, but Sandy had never acted like this when attacked with a little fever. It just makes her weak and dizzy. The doctors prescription was superb. Within two days, she would be up again, like she was starting a new life. Sandy’s repeated stroll will begin like she had missed something important all this while. Her legs leaped for Joy, while her heart skipped forward. I watched her closely from afar and observed what she admired. That was her solace whenever Zina was out. The newly married couple had just began their life of responsibilities. Zina was out early to work. His love for his wife encompassed all facets of their lives. The ‘I love you slogans meant a whole lot. It made some sense. Shane will always tease Zina. Hey man, you seem so happy today. What’s popping?. He always gives his answer in smile. Does he really speak to others, asides his wife.

The slap had rang a bell in his ear drum. What kind of a man are you? Her voice read deep meanings. His senses we’re absent. I wondered if he hasn’t been preparing for this day. Her child was in for Zina's high level of insensitivity. I’m sure he wouldn’t even care to know about his child’s name in the first place. Perhaps, he didn’t have a name in mind. Sandy was able to handle such little things. You can trust her anyway, anytime. Oh!! Shocked Zina exclaimed. You must be in labor, after 30minutes of sign language from Sandy. His next moves we’re fearfully designed. My car keys. He moved to and fro. Searching left, right center of the four cornered room. Zina had files piled up by the side of the well structured bed for newly weds. One of their sponsors had ordered a solid bed made specially for new brides. Her mouth had gathered watery glands while Mr. Pete offered us our wedding gift. Zina stood still, like he expected such gift would come anyway. There’s something amazing in Zina. Everyone close to him. Not really should it be that way, but he should be copied. His attachments are loosed. Nothing freaks Zina like Sandy. Sandy jumps up at the little gains she makes, and cools down to freeze at the little loss. At every gift they opened was a surprise package. Sandy's anxiety grew more and more as they headed home from the reception. Zina sat still, listening to every word Sandy spoke. The car radio was at it’s peak of entertainment. Every gift presented was as perfect for the newlyweds.

His car keys was just by the left side of the bed. His countenance had changed. His sweaty palm slipped out Sandy's wrist. But there were other ways out. Her waist seems preferably okay. Their steps was slow and steady, no obstacle on the way. He wouldn’t dare rush out just to get to his care on time. After all, he had wasted 30minutes, listening to Sandy's cry for help. The journey was as long as the miles she covered when she went on a stroll. Nothing good comes easy they say. This is indeed not any easy task for the duo. I didn’t want this to happen this way. As for Zina, it was earlier than he had planned. His soon unexpected plan was about to be executed. Sandy was his first family, I would love to spend a year with her alone before we start bearing kids. His innermost plan sounded like a desire. But now, it was all a dream that is about to be tarnished. What was I thinking? Zina would always hit his head whenever Sandy pressured him, as regards pregnancy symptoms. Her option for meals was wild that I wouldn’t find some meals she wanted to have. At night restless in my sleep, dreams, thoughts. At the dawning of the day, he made sure breakfast is ready, before he sets to work. This was his regrets. His preparation was not up to date. How I wished I had known the signs of when a lady is about to give birth. He had thought aloud in the hospital. When troops of doctor, moved in and out of the theatre. No one knew me at that time. I didn’t wish to see Sandy and watch her go through such pain. Even in her voice, I generate goosebumps for her. His thoughts rolled and rolled in desperation for Sandy to burst open the hidden treasures in her belly. I had never seen a woman exhibiting such grown belly. My insensitivity seemed to be inbuilt. No one dares ask him, if he actually lives in this life or the life before.

Another thirty minutes had passed the clock. What the hell is going on here? He would scream and imagine what pain his wife must be going through. Are there complications. No doctor spoke to him. Sandy’s voice increased as the pain went from worse to more worse. It seems the baby is refusing to accept the world we live in. Please save me from this mess. I knew Sandy wished she could just speak some sense into the Baby and forcefully push her out. The scan had already told us the sex of our Baby. I always loved twins but it was proven she wasn’t going to have twins, but a beautiful bouncing baby girl. At some point she chose not to believe the future of the scan result. Her friends had experienced disappointment several times. Boys seemed to have the highest likes in the society than girls. The doctor had told her she was going to have a boy. His white attire were already stained. Didn’t have an idea of how it happened. But she never imagined herself passing through such hospital. So unkept and untidy. The environment, littered with stains of blood, cotton wools, white sand spread round the hospital’s bare floor that no one could dare step barely on the unnoticed dirty surroundings. There were quack doctors I guess. That shouldn’t be the case in Sandys issue. This is one of the best hospital in the town Hall Street. Equipped facilities which equated them to rank on the top list of best hospitals in
