Chapter 1

I stop my car in front of Mr. Smith’s beach house and follow the stranger that pretends to be Mr. Smith. As we walk into the house, I ask the guy what his real name is and he replies:

"My name is Doug and it is really nice to appropriately meet you."

I just smile and say that it's nice to meet him too. As we walk inside of the big living room, I see a beautiful girl sitting on one of the couches. She stands up and asks Doug who I am and why is he bringing me to the beach house. She looks pretty annoyed. Doug introduces me to her as Miss G. and it immediately changes the impression on her face. She looks surprised and becomes speechless. The only next thing she is able to do is to point towards the big glass French door leading to the poolside. Without saying anything, I start walking in that direction.

When I step outside, I see Chuck sitting on one chair with his back to me. I was in an argumentative mood and I feel that I want to counter everything that comes out of his mouth. I step closer and when I am near that I can touch him, without moving his eyes from his laptop, he says:

What is going on, Megan? I told you that I do not want to be interrupted. I have a very important work to do… Is the house on fire?

I smile and reply:

"I told her that I am more important than the burning house. So don't blame her…"

When he hears my voice, he almost drops his laptop on the floor. Chuck sharply turns around, looks at me with surprise and asks:

"How...? Why are you ….?"

He is very confused that he isn’t able to ask me a simple question. I smile, and at the moment when he tries to stand up, I push him back to sit down and say:

"Let me help you with that."

He just mumbles something as I continue:

"How did I get here? Ummm. I have a car and I drove here. How did I know that you are here? Mrs. Smith told me. She convinced me that you are not a crazy person."

He tries to say something again, but I did not give him a chance. I just bend over, put a finger on his lips and continue:

"… and why am I here? Because I want to hear it from you; why did you say all those crazy things to me?"

"What crazy things?" he continues to ask me stupid questions.

"Why did you lie to me?"

Chuck puts his laptop down on the floor, looks at me and says:

"Because I am a very stupid person and I never listen to my friends’ advice."

As I reflect on those words, I stand up and sit on the chair in front of him:

"Okay, that answer is convincing and I am willing to hear more of your explanation."

"First, I need to apologize…."

I interrupt his words.

"I don't want to hear your apologies. I just want to know why?"

He goes on saying:

"Because of the bad experiences in my past relationships, I did something stupid…I just want to be sure that you see me as a regular guy. Ummm, yes, a little bit crazy sometimes but not as a super-rich, extravagant person with a fake personality. After our first date, I realized that I cannot stop thinking about you. I know what I did was wrong but I didn't know how to tell you the truth. I was scared that you would push me away and I refuse to listen to Mrs. Smith."

"But, you are crazy, rich and extravagant. I don’t know which version of you is fake or real anymore."

He starts laughing.

"Yes, I am rich and extravagant, but I never showed you a fake personality. I showed you the real me."

He looks at my eyes and somehow his gaze convinces me that he is telling the truth. Those deep blue eyes convinced me that he really wants to win me back and he regrets his mistake. From now on, he will be honest with me with all his answers. I think he knows that is what I am looking for.

"When you agreed to go with Mr. Smith…Umm the fake Mr. Smith during that second party, I didn’t know how to tell you that I am the real Mr. Smith. Your decision to go with that stranger confused me a lot. I thought that you liked him more and you wanted to be part of his mysterious world, but at the end we had an unforgettable night and I…"

"Stop" I interrupt him. You are really showing me how stupid you are right now … and how you don’t have a clue about anything that I said… He looks at me in surprise as I continue.

"You don’t get it, do you? I agreed to go to that party
