Introducing This Tender Land
William Kent Krueger's latest book titled, 'This tender land' is a companion book to his previous standalone novel titled 'Ordinary Grace.' The story is narrated by Odysseus O'Banion, referred to as Odie. The book starts as an old man, Odie O'Banion, narrates his past. Odie recites the tale of his escape along with his brother and two friends from the Lincoln school in Minnesota in the year 1932. He recites the journey undertaken by the four orphans to escape the Lincoln School, where Native American children are being tutored after being separated from their parents.
This tender land is set in the year of 1932 around the time of the Great Depression. The story is about four orphans who escape an American Indian boarding school and set out to find them forever home. The school is called the Lincoln school and is situated in Minnesota. The school is the place where children are sent to be educated, particularly Native American children. They are forcibly separated from their parents and sent to this boarding school. The school was a former military outpost known by the name of Fort
