About this ebook

She's nothing like what he expected…

The Martin Ranch is back up and running, with new ranch hands helping Eliza, Christopher and Alice. Adam is hard working but quiet, getting on with his work without saying much to anyone.

When Eliza is introduced to Susanna by a mutual acquaintance, she immediately invites her to the ranch. Susanna has an affinity for animals and is thrilled at the invitation.

Adam is less than impressed when the unconventional Miss Susanna tells him how to break a nervous horse, but he slowly begins to respect her ways when she manages to do something he can't. Respect slowly begins to blossom into something new.

Unfortunately for Adam, the old ranch hands are set to make trouble for the Martin Ranch, even putting Susanna in danger.

Whisper to Me is an old west novel, set in the heart of Texas. If you like historic fiction with a touch of romance, then you'll love this book and the Martin Ranch Series at large!

    ––––––––

Eliza leaned back into Christopher’s embrace, tipping her head back for a kiss. Thank you for being here with me.

His lips pressed against hers. I’m right where I belong, he murmured, snuggling his arms around her waist a little more.

Sighing happily, Eliza smiled as her new husband nuzzled her cheek. They had only been a few days married, and even though they needed to get back to work on the ranch, she wished that they could put it off even just for one more day.

A quiet knock at the door interrupted them both.

Sorry, Alice smiled, sticking her head through the door. I just thought you should know that some of the men have arrived.

Thank you. We’ll be down in a moment, Eliza replied, extricating herself from her husband’s arms. Let’s just hope we find some good workers!

Ever since Dave, their ranch manager, had been killed, most of the men who worked on the Martin Ranch had left. They’d been left with only three workers, plus the three of them, but that certainly wasn’t enough to look after the large and expansive ranch that boasted all kinds of animals, as well as crops and various other things. Along with their quick wedding, Eliza and Christopher were both beginning to feel the stress.

Don’t worry, Christopher reassured her, kneading the tension from her shoulders. We’ll find a few good men and this ranch will be back up and running by the end of the week.

I hope so, Eliza sighed, straightening her skirts and walking to the door. So long as the previous workers haven’t put any of them off coming here!

Christopher kissed her again, trying to ease the worry from her eyes, even though he had considered the very same situation. Alice had said there were a few men who had responded to their advertisement for workers, he just had to hope at least some of them had experience working on a ranch. Right now, they needed any help they could get!

What about him? Eliza murmured, as the man they’d just spoken to walked away. He seems to be a hard worker.

"So he says, Christopher emphasized, watching the man with a frown. Awfully quiet, don’t you think?"

So were you, Eliza replied, digging him in the ribs. Look how you turned out.

Grinning, Christopher wrapped his arm around her shoulders. You’re right, I suppose.

    You suppose?

Chuckling, Christopher dropped a kiss to the top of her head. All right, I’ll admit it! You’ve got a good point. We can hire him if you like. What was his name again?

Adam, Eliza said, thoughtfully. If he proves not to be a good worker, then we can just let him go, can’t we?

I suppose, Christopher replied. I’d prefer not to, though.

Then let’s just hope we’ve got a good group of hardworking men there, then!

Alice walked in, handing them both a steaming cup of coffee. I thought you might need some sustenance!

Thank you, Eliza replied, getting to her feet. But I think we’re done!

Oh? Alice's gaze traveled from one to the other. Do you think you have enough workers?

Christopher nodded slowly. "I think so. We’ve got a good eight men there, in addition to
