About this ebook

Jack Newman is the leader of a small group called the Infidels. They stand up against a secret government task force looking to fix the economy by killing off targets in the population. Their main goal was to unite the country in fear to obey the new government rule they looked to implement over time. With Jack's supernatural ability, he felt it was up to him to stop them. He had made this choice after the Draven, the leader of the task force, had murdered both of his parents. It had then become Jack's desire to stand up for what was right and stop them. Jack was tracking Draven and his henchman until an unforeseen problem had occurred: one of the Infidels had become a traitor. Jack had no choice but to murder the traitor, which only led to more problems. What Jack didn't know was that Draven's greatest scheme was about to be set in motion, putting a stop to anyone who would get in his way. It was up to Jack to escape Draven's grip and take him down before Draven's plan took place.

Jack Newman And The Infidels - Lynn Grace

    Chapter 1: On The Run

As Jack hurried through the woods, he dodged tree limbs, hopped rocks, and pushed branches out of his way. He stopped behind a tree to catch his breath. He leaned his head back against the bark and took heavy breaths to fill his straining lungs. He looked at the ceiling of tree branches above him as he continually wheezed for air. His fit body was used to running at long-distance like this but adding panic and fear to the mix caused it to be much more difficult than simply going for a leisure run down the road on an ordinary day.

There was no more time for a break. Jack pushed off the tree trunk with his hand to launch himself into a full sprint again through the woods. He was unsure of how close his pursuers were behind him, but he didn’t want to wait around to find out.

He came to a hill where he could see the exit of the forest at the top. Jack climbed as fast as he could. When he reached the end of the incline, Jack left behind the woodland to find a new landscape. Jack was faced with a field of long grass and thick fog, making it impossible to know what lay ahead. Jack was unsure if he should continue straight or follow the treeline around the foggy field until he had a better vision of where he was going. He made up his mind quickly when he heard the crackling of broken twigs behind him. They were close! Jack ran straight into the foggy field of the unknown, hoping it would lead to freedom.

As he ran through the field, Jack came to a point where he was again heaving for oxygen. He decided that the fog had given enough protection from his followers that he could slow down his pace. His swift run turned into a rhythmic jog. Jack did his best to stay in a straight line as he continued. There was no way to tell which way he had come, and he didn’t want to get turned around.

Jack pressed on through the field, hoping for an opening to appear. The misty fog was so thick that it began to become more difficult to see as the minutes passed. Jack struggled to make out anything more than a few feet in front of him. There wasn’t much to see other than the blanket of dark gray fog and long grass, but Jack had not anticipated the field to be so large. How long had he been in here? Ten? Fifteen minutes? It was hard to say. Jack didn’t even know what time it was due to his phone being dead.

After a few more minutes had passed, Jack began to wonder if he was going in circles. Overwhelming anxiety began to cloud his thoughts like the fog clouded the field. To make matters worse, drizzling rain began to fill the air, soaking Jack and everything around him. Jack could feel the breeze picking up and was nervous that his veil of fog would drift from the field exposing him. Jack thought maybe he should lie down in the field in case the fog lifted, but he quickly disregarded this idea, as he was sure this could lead to being found. He made up his mind that he had to keep moving forward.

Jack had not heard his followers for
