Breastplate of Righteousness - Theresa Linden

    Dear Reader,

The breastplate of a Roman soldier’s armor protected very important parts of a soldier’s body, especially the heart! Without the breastplate, a soldier risked being mortally wounded.

The same is true of the armor of God! This piece of armor protects the heart. Jesus once said, If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Living a righteous life protects us from the attacks of the enemy and lets us prove our love for Jesus!

I pray that you grow in your love for Our Lord Jesus Christ and that He fills you with His grace and blessing.

    Happy reading,

    Theresa Linden

    Ephesians 6:13-17

"Therefore, put on the armor of God,

that you may be able to resist on the evil day and,

having done everything, to hold your ground.

So stand fast with your loins girded in truth,

clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and

your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.

In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield,

to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation and the

sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

    Falling

Nine-year-old George Pennington couldn’t shake the feeling that he would fall. He sat on a sturdy branch of one of his favorite climbing trees. The blue sky winked through the canopy of leaves. No wind blew, and the sky showed no chance of rain. He could do this.

He checked the fabric strips tied under his knees. They secured his legs to tall stilts. George positioned his feet on the stubby branches that served as footrests. Taking a breath, he looked around.

His best friends Robyn Saint-Clair and Henry Hayward watched from below. He even spotted a few other kids from Knight School for Boys and Girls.

His chest swelled at the thought of the first piece of armor he had earned at school: The Belt of Truth. What piece of armor would they get a chance to earn next? He couldn’t wait to find out.

Not ready to take his first step, George continued to look around.

Many shopkeepers had even come out to observe the spectacle. Helena the Seamstress stood with her daughters Alice and Eleanor on the porch of her shop. Alice covered her mouth with her hand. Her wide eyes made her seem ready to laugh if George fell.

Arthur the Blacksmith leaned a shoulder against the post outside the candlemaker’s shop. He folded his arms across his chest. And he watched. He was always watching. He knew everything that happened on Middle Street.

Brother Coll even stood watching— Oh wait! No. He was chasing a . . . a bantam rooster?

You can do it, George, Robyn shouted. She always encouraged him. They met on the first day of Knight School, and she had been encouraging him ever since.

What are you waiting for? Henry asked. He stood near the tree. Hair the color of muddy straw hung in his eyes. He peered up at George.

George clutched the top of the stilts and took a deep breath. Then he leaned his weight
