About this ebook

Book 4 in the Armor of God children's chapter book series.

While George and the other pages work hard at Knight School, learning how to earn the Shield of Faith, Robyn notices several knights have gone away. She suspects they've gone to investigate the dragon sightings.

Before George and his friends can learn more, Sir Lucian invites George and his little brother, Erik, on a secret mission that answers questions George has been wondering ever since he first became a page. When George finds himself in a tight situation, he'd rather have a lantern than faith. He's not the only one facing a challenge. Each page--anxious to earn the Shield of Faith--is tested before the day is out.

Based on the Scriptural Armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17), the six-book ARMOR OF GOD series appeals to the universal and timeless quest for virtue and inner strength. The story themes and "Brother Coll's Catechism Lessons," weaved into each story, are perfect for children preparing for or who have recently made their First Confession and First Holy Communion.

Shield of Faith - Theresa Linden

    Dear Reader

As you have learned from reading the first three books, each piece of armor represents a different virtue. The three most important virtues are called the theological virtues. They are faith, hope, and charity.

Faith is the theme for this fourth book in the Armor of God series. Faith lifts our hearts to God, gives us perseverance, reminds us that we are never alone, and it can help us through difficulties.

I hope this story will inspire you to turn often to Jesus—especially in your daily challenges—and ask Him for the powerful gift of faith.

    Happy reading,

    Theresa Linden

    Ephesians 6:13-17

"Therefore, put on the armor of God,

that you may be able to resist on the evil day and,

having done everything, to hold your ground.

So stand fast with your loins girded in truth,

clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and

your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.

In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield,

to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation and the

sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

    Sword Fighting

To become a good knight , one must know how to sword fight. George lunged and swung his sword toward his friend Henry. While they played with wooden swords and shields, George saw the real deal in his imagination.

Henry blocked the attack. Sword clanked against sword. Their smooth metal blades flashed in the sunlight. They fought like knights.

George drew his sword back. He swung again.

Henry lifted his shield, saving himself. The sword dragged across it with a steely hiss.

In the next instant, Henry shoved George with the shield and raised his sword high.

George staggered back. He lifted his shield to block Henry’s sword, but the blade touched his forehead.

Just a touch? A drop of blood rolled down his face.

    Arrrr! George lunged forward swinging.

With no time to raise his shield, Henry tried to block the blow with his sword. But he missed.

George’s sword pierced him in the side.

HENRY CLUTCHED HIS side and moaned. Shield and sword dropped to the leaf-covered ground. He fell to his knees, moaning. His head rolled forward onto his chest, and his brown straw-like hair flopped across his forehead. He collapsed, falling onto his face. Leaves blew up around him and floated back down over his motionless body.

George leaned against the stone wall at the back of the school grounds and caught his breath. Henry still didn’t move. He hadn’t really hurt Henry, had he? Uh, Henry?

A second later, Henry rolled over and burst out laughing.

Relieved that his friend was fine, George laughed too. What a performance. Henry should think about becoming a jester or a strolling
