Chapter Nine

The past five days had been hellish for Damon. After Jemma had left on Monday morning, after that last round of sex, he felt like she’d been torn from him. Fuck, she was only gonna be away for five days, so why did he feel like calling and demanding she come back? His work had been his only savior and he’d felt a little more in control by Tuesday, counting the days, until she returned.

Then Helen called — and that had changed everything. She wanted to see him; he wasn’t interested. But when she mentioned Jemma, saying she had something important to tell him about her, he’d relented.

She arrived around seven in the evening, dressed to kill, and he poured them both a drink, deliberately sitting on the couch opposite of her. He was impatient for her to spill the beans and leave; he’d had a busy day and was eager to go to bed — alone.

You had something to tell me? He got straight to the point and she pouted, taking a sip of her wine.

He waited, not saying anything.

A dramatic sigh. "Well, there’s this blog I’ve been following called Going Solo ... Have you heard of it?" she asked, watching him carefully.

Damon shook his head, uninterested in blogs, uninterested in what she had to say.

Anyway, it’s pretty hot stuff, she smiled suggestively. You know, for single women, giving them tips on how to pleasure themselves. And she writes some pretty hardcore erotica, as well, she paused, but he said nothing. What did this have to do with Jemma?

Helen rolled her eyes. Well it’s become very successful, and the other night while I was checking it out, the blogger mentioned that she was coming to the States. A New York publisher was interested in turning her blog into a book.

Damon frowned, unsure where this was going.

Helen took another sip of her wine. She also said she was going to try and find a man, a special man to have casual sex with, she paused, annoying him. "Some of her readers, men and women, were challenging her to try sex with a real man. So she said she was going to take them up on it and try couple’s sex, if she found the right man..."

I still don’t see what this has to do with Jemma. Damon was fed up by now.

She smiled at his impatience. Her blog name is Jemima Jameson, very similar to Jemma James.

No way, Helen, he laughed. Jemma, a sex blog? Never.

Well, I got a publishing friend of mine to do some digging — and guess what? She smiled a sly, satisfied smile. Jemma James has just signed up with a small New York publishing house; Jemima Jameson is Jemma James!

He shook his head, not able to connect innocent Jemma with a sex blog. But deep down he’d had a feeling she was lying about that travel blog. She’d been evasive about her work and her trip to New York from the beginning.
