Chapter Five

Jemma stripped off as soon as she entered her motel room on the upper floor, and jumped into the shower. She’d wiped herself off with tissues at Damon’s place but she still felt sticky, sweaty, and emotionally drained.

She’d left her room last night with the intention of having a few drinks at Alfie’s Bar and coming back. Instead, she’d ended up having sex in Damon’s car, again, and proceeded to get so drunk that the last part of the night was a blur. Never mind waking up at his place and having to face his mother — it was all too much for her to deal with right now.

She exited the shower, laid down on the bed, and tried to stop her mind from thinking, going over and over each event. What was it Damon had said? Don’t think too much, it’s a bad habit, I learned that the hard way. He was so right, but she wasn’t a Buddhist Monk, she couldn’t just control her mind and cruise into a state of meditation.

She had to meet with her publishers in New York on Monday. She was not properly prepared, yet all she could think about was Damon, and the fact that she wasn’t going to see him for almost a week. Her body still throbbed after that kiss in the parking lot. God, she was so weak where he was concerned.

His mother came to mind, so attractive and vibrant. She must have been really young when she’d had Damon. Jemma liked his mother and felt bad lying to the woman. A travel writer! Where the hell had that come from? You sucked it out of your thumb, Jemma, that’s what her mother would say. She wasn’t used to lying and she wasn’t used to pretending to be something she wasn’t.

Groaning, she rolled over onto her stomach, spreading her legs wide on the double bed and pressing her sensitized sex against the mattress, her mind instinctively taking her back to the quickie on the stool in his kitchen.
