Only A Boss Could Love Her 2 - Kay Nicole

    Chapter One

    Lavon

    One month later

So much shit had gone on in the last month. This nigga had really taken my baby from me. I blamed myself every day because I should have never left her alone. I should have never put her in that position. I was supposed to be her protector, and I fucking failed. I missed Shara so fucking much, and I had been working with Alvarez trying to find that bitch ass nigga Alfonso. I wasn’t eating, sleeping, or none of that. All I wanted to do was find my girl and bring her back home. I kept in touch with Chaela and Nasir, and she was going crazy too. Qualim and Nasir wanted to work with us, but Alvarez wasn’t having that. Even though Alvarez wouldn’t work with them directly, we still shared any information that we could to find on that nigga.

It had been weird as fuck being around Carlos again. The last time I saw him was seven years ago, and he was bleeding out on a floor. At first, shit was awkward, and I was mad as fuck, but after we talked, everything he said made sense. He let me know that he had been watching me over the years, making sure I was straight. Claimed he wanted to come back and talk with me, but when everything happened with Aries, Alvarez was on some other shit. He knew I was out of that life for good, and with him taking shit to another level, he didn’t want to have me involved with any of it. He still looked exactly the same, and even though the circumstances were fucked up, I was happy to be back with my brother. We had been working day and night trying to find my girl, but everything we got our hands on came up empty. We were sitting in a dirty ass warehouse while Alfonso’s brother Lorenzo bled from different parts of his body.

We kidnapped him two days after Shara went missing and had been torturing him ever since. He wasn’t giving up any information, and the shit was pissing me the fuck off. That nigga was useless, and I personally wanted to just kill his ass.

Lorenzo, I feel like we have been more than fair to you, Alvarez said in his thick Spanish accent as he cleaned the blood off of his machete. We have treated you like a king since you’ve been here. You’ve eaten for free. You get to sleep for countless hours. We even cleaned your shit up from around you. So you mean to tell me, after I’ve done all of this for you, you will not do anything for me?

Where the fuck is Alfonso? I asked, standing directly in front of him.

Fuck you, nigga, he said, spitting blood at me.

Before I knew it, I punched him so hard in his mouth that two of his teeth fell out. Carlos and Alvarez just stood back as I took every piece of anger out on his face and body. By the time I got done, I was out of breath, and Lorenzo was barely breathing. Carlos had to pull me off of him in order for me to stop. I was so fucking angry, and I just wanted my girl back.

Is this really worth losing your life over? All you have to do is tell me where he is, and I will let you walk out of here with the little bit of life that you have left. What’s your choice? Alvarez asked.

Fuck you. Kill me, he said. He was barely able to keep his head from falling.

Without hesitation, Alvarez swung his hand back and disconnected Lorenzo’s head from his body. Blood went everywhere, and his head rolled toward my feet. I picked it up and put in the box that was sitting on the table next to me. Pulling out a marker, I wrote down his name and address and handed it to one of Alvarez goons. We were sending out a message, and one way or another, we were going to find Alfonso and my girl.

    Later that night

I’m sick. I have stage 4 liver cancer. I don’t have much time left here, mi amigos. If I leave this earth before you find that perra hijo de puta(bitch motherfucker), I want you to promise me that you will find him, and when you find him, you will kill him with no mercy, Alvarez said, taking a sip of his tequila.

I had no idea that he was sick, but from the look on Carlos’s face, it was obvious that he did. Over the last seven years, Carlos had been in Mexico working directly under Alvarez, so I already knew what was coming next.

Carlos will take over for me, he said, eyeing his men that stood around the room. Some of the dudes in here had been working for him for years, so I was actually surprised there were no malice looks coming from any of them. He knows the business. He knows exactly where I want this cartel to go, and he will do anything to keep this business alive. From this day forward, you will answer directly to him.

I looked over at Carlos as he stood up and looked at everyone in the room. I could tell that he was happy to be in charge. It was the kind of shit that he lived for. Me, on the other hand, I never had dreams of doing anything like that. See, Carlos was a hothead, and he wasn’t businesslike at all. I honestly felt like it was the dumbest decision that Alvarez could have ever made. Back when we were running the streets together, I had to clean up a lot of messes for him, so I knew putting him in a position like this was not going to end well.

We’re going to keep running this operation like we’ve been doing. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it, right? We are still on the mission to find Alfonso and bring my brother’s girl back to him. Keep your ears to the streets, and let me know if y'all need anything at all. Go home for the night. As a matter of fact, take the rest of the weekend off. I’m going back to Mexico on Monday, but I will definitely be back, he said, walking around the room and shaking everyone’s hand.

I stood up to get ready to leave. When he made his way over to me, he pulled me into a brotherly hug.

We’re going to get your girl back, nigga. Don’t even sweat that shit.

I wanted to believe him, but if Carlos was the same selfish ass nigga from before, I knew Shara was going to be the last person on his mind.

I’m out, bro, I said, dapping him up and walking into the elevator in Alvarez’s basement.

Iwasn’t ready to go home yet, so I decided to go to this sports bar not far from my apartment. When I pulled up, I didn’t immediately get out of my car. Instead, I pulled my phone out and looked at the pictures that I had of Shara in my phone. She was so beautiful, and I missed her so fucking much. I felt tears stinging my eyes, and before I let them fall, I jumped out of my car and headed into the bar.

When I walked in, it wasn’t packed at all, which I was happy about. I found a seat at the corner of the bar and ordered shots of Henny. Every time I thought about Shara, I felt my heart break. I would give and do anything to have her back home with me and her family. That shit just wasn’t right. My mind was all over the place, and I needed this alcohol to help numb the anger and pain that I was feeling.

An hour later, I was sitting at the bar fucked up from all the drinks I’d had. I felt somebody tap me on the shoulder, and when I looked beside me, there was a pretty ass girl standing there. She wasn’t as beautiful as Shara, but she was definitely decent. She gave me a warm smile, but unfortunately, I didn’t give her one in return. What kind of nigga would I be for smiling in another girl’s face, when my girl was out there somewhere fucking terrified?

Is this seat taken? she asked.

I looked at her like she was fucking crazy. We were damn near the only people in the bar, so that meant she passed up every seat to come over there and sit with me.

You can sit wherever the hell you want, ma. You can sit here. You can sit over there. You can sit anywhere. I don’t give a fuck, I said, snapping at her. Surprisingly, she didn’t budge. She just pulled the chair out and sat down next to me.

Let me get an order of barbecue wings, a strawberry margarita, and another one of what he’s drinking, she said to the bartender, handing him her card.

    I’m good, ma.

    Alba. My name is Alba.

I’m good, Alba. I’m about to get out of here anyway. I’m sorry for snapping on you too. I’m just all fucked up right now, I said, taking the last sip of my beer and preparing to leave.

It’s cool. Stay here, and tell me what’s on your mind, she said without taking her eyes from mine.

I’m cool. I really don’t like sharing personal business with people I don’t know.

I’m Alba. I’m twenty-eight, a registered nurse, and I live in University Heights. I don’t have a man, no kids, and I love to read. I’m originally from Baltimore, but me and my family moved here after my grandmother got sick when I was in the eleventh grade. My dad is a functioning alcoholic, and my mom is a preschool teacher. So tell me about you Mister?

    Lavon.

Mr. Lavon, what’s got a fine ass man like you in a bar drinking yourself underneath it?

At that point, I was intrigued, and it hurt me to even feel like that. Like I said, I shouldn’t have even been entertaining that girl, but in reality, I had no one else to really talk to. Of course, I still talked to Chaela and the family, but everybody was stressed the fuck out and going through their own shit on top of Shara being missing. Without even thinking, I sat back in my chair and smirked at her.

I got some shit going on, shit I don’t even have the power to fucking fix. I feel helpless.

Ya girl left you, huh? she said, laughing. When she said that, my entire facial expression changed, and I knew she could tell because her smile quickly faded.

If you only knew the half, Alba. She’s gone, ma. I don’t know if she’s coming back. I don’t know if she’s safe. I’m sick as fuck without her man, I said as my voice cracked. I’d never been the type to cry, but ever since Shara had been away, I felt weak as fuck. Alba didn’t say anything; she just watched as I tried to hold back my tears.

It’s OK to cry, you know? she asked while using her napkin to wipe BBQ sauce off of her hands.

She got up off the barstool and stood between my legs. Using her hands to wipe my tears away, she pulled my head into her chest. After that, I cried like a baby. I couldn’t hold that shit back anymore.

I don’t know exactly what you’re going through, but whatever it is, try to be strong. But understand it’s OK to be weak sometimes as well. You may be big like an ox, but you don’t have to be strong like one.

I lifted my head up and just stared at her. I knew what I said before, but that girl was absolutely beautiful to me now by her looks, plus her heart. She was about five feet four with skin the color of brown sugar. Her eyes were chocolate brown. Her lips were pouty, and she wore a small diamond stud in her nose. Her hair was in a large, puffy ponytail on the top of her head, and the ends were sandy brown. I guess she was what women called natural. She was a petite girl, but her hips were slightly wide, and she had a little ass behind her. It was like she was an angel sent to be there with me at that exact moment.

"I’m sorry, ma. Thanks for hearing me out. I’m about to get up out of here and try to get
