About this ebook

Candace and Mikayla never thought that their lives would change as drastically as they did. Mikayla is torn between the two—her ex-boyfriend and the man in her life now, Zanier. She thought that she made the right decision by choosing her past, but she will come to find out that was a mistake as well as an unplanned situation that could bring her and Zanier back together or tear them apart even more.
Candace is trying to get her life back together after the shooting that almost took her life. She wants Javion and herself to make their relationship work, but Javion is acting like he is not ready when, in actuality, he is. Will he and Candace make it or not?
Zanier really cares about Mikayla, but she is playing with his emotions, which pushes him back into the arms of his ex-girlfriend and Za’Nya’s mom, Allison. He does not really want that, but Mikayla leaves him no choice when she chooses her past over him. He wants to get back on good terms with Javion, but unfortunately, he wants nothing to do with him. He never thought that a certain event would bring Javion and him back together, as well as Mikayla.
Javion blames himself for Candace being shot. He doesn’t want to be with her, because he is afraid that he will put her in even more danger. He promises her and everyone else that he will catch Meech, Kellan, and the main person, Deadly, for hurting the woman that he cares about, and if that means that he has to get the crew back together and sleep with someone to get his answers, he’ll do it, but he doesn’t know the consequences behind the actions he’s done.

    Can't Resist a Boss 2 - Alesha Riley

    1

    Mikayla

I was sitting in the waiting room, just thinking about what Candace said to me when I was going through my drama with Kellan. She pinky promised me that she would be here forever, but right now, I felt like everything was a lie. My best friend was in surgery, and I didn’t know if she was going to make it or not. Her lying on the ground from that gunshot wound gave me a flashback of when she found me lying on the floor in our dorm room. I would never forget that day. I could’ve been dead if it weren’t for Candace.

Kellan was the love of my life. I would’ve found a way to walk on water for this nigga if he asked me to. We met through my brother, DeMeechie, and at first, I didn’t want him, because he hung out with my brother. They played women more than they played their PlayStations, but the more I ignored him, the more he kept trying to pursue me, and finally, I decided to give him a chance.

At the beginning, our relationship was perfect. We went on dates, we had sex, and we were faithful to each other well—at least I was. When I found out that he was being unfaithful, I confronted him about it, and that was the first day he laid his hands on me. I ignored it, and I kept the bruises covered until he started hitting me in my face to the point that makeup couldn’t cover it up. When Candace saw it, she went ballistic. She told DeMeechie about it, and he said he would handle it, and I should’ve known then he didn’t care about me, because Kellan continued to abuse me. After that visit to the hospital, I packed up my things, and Candace and I moved off campus and lived in an apartment until we graduated.

Why the fuck are you here, bruh? I was knocked out of my daydream when I heard Javion’s voice. He was sitting down, looking at Zanier, who was standoffish since he and his brother were beefing. They never got to discuss what happened before Candace was shot.

Javion stood up, walking from one end to the other while giving Zanier the death stare. This shit is your fault. If you would’ve been straight up with me, none of this shit would’ve happened!

Zanier scoffed and looked at J like he had two heads. I’m not the one who was messing around with a crazy ass bitch! If you would’ve left her alone, then this shit wouldn’t have happened! The fuck you mean!

I looked in Javion’s face, and I saw his eyes get darker, and I knew something bad was about to happen. He walked up to Zanier, and before he could do anything, I stepped in between them and put one hand on both of their chests Look! I know that you are both in your feelings right now, but my best friend is in there fighting for her life, so you need to take this shit somewhere else!

Javion was still standing there, staring at Zanier like he was about to punch him, but he turned around and sat back in his chair. Zanier huffed and said, I’m going to get something to drink. You want something?

I shook my head and rubbed my hands up and down my arms. Zanier sighed and kissed my forehead. You know she is going to be okay, right?

I sat down and started to cry. I don’t know, Zay. When I saw her lying on the ground, all the wind left my body, and it was like I couldn’t breathe, and then when Javion checked for a pulse and put his head down. I promise you my heart stopped because that girl in there is my life! She is not only my best friend, but she is my sister, and if something happens to her I … I don’t know what I’m going to do… I started back crying, and Zanier wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me toward him.

Listen. We all know that Candace is a very strong woman, especially since she has all of us in her corner. She will be fine. I promise you that.

I looked up at him and said, Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

He pecked my lips and placed his hand on my cheek. Trust me. This is a promise.

Javion laughed. I wouldn’t trust shit he says. If he can’t keep it real with me, what makes you think he can make a promise and keep it?

Zanier growled at him. If you would’ve let me explain, then you would know the situation and why I kept it from you. You don’t even know the whole story! As always, you’re so damn stubborn and don’t want to listen when I try to tell you something!

Javion stood up and charged toward Zanier while he was still sitting in the chair. There is nothing for you to tell me! My parents are dead, and you were the reason why! He shoved him out the chair. After that, Zanier jumped up and punched him in his face. I was pretty much done with them because all I cared about was Candace, so I moved out of the way.

Why are you so damn stubborn, J? Huh? We’re brothers, man. I would never hurt you intentionally. I do shit to protect you. That’s what Pops wanted! Zanier yelled.

Javion touched his lip and wiped the little blood that was dripping down his chin. Nigga, don’t say shit about Pops, and don’t call him Pops. You lost that privilege when you got him killed. He shook his head. You’re dead to me.

Finally, the security and the nurse came to squash the drama, but as always, they showed up too late. There were two security guards, but you were able to tell which one was in charge. He had a mean mug on his face with his hands on his crotch. The other security guard was standing behind him, looking at the nurse like she was a piece of juicy steak. I’m sorry, but we have to ask you both to leave. If you must know, this is a hospital, not a boxing ring, said the leading security
