BRAVE NOELINE ‘HOW COULD HE?’

Music was blaring as I walked into my new boyfriend Mal’s family home. ‘That’s my little sister, Noeline,’ he grinned.

At 16, Noeline was a bubbly Indigenous girl who Mal’s parents, Peter and Junee, adopted as a baby.

Mal and his brother, Peter, absolutely adored her.

Soon she became a little sister to me, too.

When Mal and I had our daughter, Holly, four years later, Noeline was thrilled.

‘I’ll be the fun aunty,’ she grinned.
