About this ebook

Someone once said maybe sometimes, you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light…

Kay, who is better known as Khem, disappeared from her life three years ago, without a trace, moving around until she settled about one hour from her hometown. Her life had spiraled out of control, and she felt as if no one was in her corner, but her friend Angie was right there all along. Her appetite for a man had depleted until she laid eyes on Denver “Sneak” Laurent.

Sneak is now head of the Laurent family business of distributing. Sneak’s cockiness and way of thinking are what gave him the title. Since he is head in charge, he now has to meet with a secret group of people who run the state. His life is hectic—keeping up his pharmacy, juggling all of his women and business—until one chance encounter with Kay turns his world upside down.

Dallas is the oldest of the clan but the deadliest when pushed. His professional life is flourishing, but his personal life is in shambles. After finding out his wife wasn’t what he thought she was, he files for divorce, but she’s not ready to give up just yet, with his assistant lurking in the background.

Being the youngest and the prettiest out of the bunch, Austin, also known as Lux, is considered the baby, but he takes no shit. A person from his past pops up unannounced, and he is ready to put them out of their misery while protecting the woman he loves the most at the same time.

One thing that they all have in common is that no one wants them to be on top. Enemies are coming at all angles, trying to tear the Laurent dynasty down. Will they survive the mishaps, or will they all fall victim to deceit?

When Bae Is A Young Savage - Juliet Avenue

    Chapter One

    Kay

    Lonely.

Without companions—solitary. That was how it had been since I removed all the heartache and deceit out of my life. It was no longer about what everybody else wanted me to do. It was about me. Time gave me a new outlook on life, to pursue greatness, even though everyone around me wanted me to be wrapped in darkness.

I had to leave for my own solitude. No one understood me, and no one took the time out to get to know me. I was one of those people that you would look at and think they had it all together, but deep down inside, I was dying. There were secrets that I’d buried deep within that were still hidden until I was ready to exhume.

    Dying.

At one point in my life, that sounded like the best option for me. I didn’t have any kids to live for. I had family, but they never cared, or at least I didn’t think so. How could they? They never asked about my life or how I was doing. It was give me this, or I’ll just take that since you don’t need it. Let me borrow this, or can I have that?

    Lonely.

This was what my life had produced. Smile, Khem. You have so much to be thankful for. Smile, Khem. You have all the money you can dream of. Smile, Khem. You are in the making to be the most powerful person in the United States.

    Run, Khem.

That was all I truthfully heard them say. Run, Khem. Run from the torment embedded in your brain. Run, Khem. You’ve never been good enough until now. Run, Khem. They won’t miss you. Run, Khem, and that’s what I did. I ran Forrest-Gump style. That day, I decided I wanted to go for a run. I ran and never stopped.

It has been three years to this day that Khem Macklemore disappeared. She was turning into one of the greatest authors of our time, a philanthropist, a devoted spokesperson, and most importantly, our Secretary of State. I’m deeply emotional about this situation. It has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever gone through. She was a dear friend of mine, and I miss her. I don’t know what happened to her, but I hope she is alive and well. If you’re listening, Khem, don’t give up. We will find you! Let’s have a moment of…

I flipped the television off, annoyed at the fake sympathy that was on. I didn’t even know him, and you could see how he just made it seem like he had an intimate relationship with me. That was exactly why I left with no money to my name—well, new name.

    Knock. Knock. Knock.

Who the hell is that? I thought as I sat quietly in my two-bedroom house that I had just leased. Starting over wasn’t the hard part since I’d always been a hustler in my own right. Keeping a low profile was the most difficult part, but I’d kind of mastered that on my own. What in the hell was I thinking? Right, Kay. … You weren’t thinking when you decided to leave your mansion, three cars, and your normal life when you decided enough was enough.

Well, let me be honest. I lived approximately thirty minutes from the town I used to reside in. It took some getting used to, but I really didn’t leave the house unless I had to. I wanted to see if I could get away with disappearing. I know you’re thinking I could have moved across country, but I had to see who all would be looking for me.

    Patience.

A plan was set in motion, and I wanted to be right there to look at the outcome. I sighed as I walked to the door and looked through the peephole. I noticed a UPS man standing at my door with a package. I smiled, jumping up and down when I realized what it was.

Hey! I laughed as I opened the door. I was really in my feelings about this gift I saved up to buy for myself. It had been a while since I’d bought something for myself without feeling guilty.

Hey, beautiful! The guy smiled with a mouthful of gold. It was not attractive at all. Yes, I know I said it. I was taller than him, with me standing at five feet five. Strike one. I grabbed the package out his hand, and he let his hand travel over mine as he released the package. He grabbed his chin and started to smirk as if he were a gift from God—hell, a creation developed for a woman. That was when I noticed his dirty ass nails. Strike two. I gave him a tight smile to keep myself from slamming the door in his face.

Well, thank you, I mumbled, pushing the door up to close it, but he put his foot in the door right before I closed it. I threw the package on the small table that was by the door and reached behind my back to put my hand on the gun I had tucked in my spandex biker shorts. Is there a problem, sir? I asked through clenched teeth. My hand started shaking, ready to whip it out and pull the trigger.

Naw, but I saw something I liked, and I had to say something. He looked at me and licked his lips, causing me to roll my eyes. I removed my hand from the gun, knowing I could probably beat him up without any help if push came to shove.

Well, I’m not single, baby. I squeezed the door shut until he moved his foot. Strike three. A weak ass nigga.

Damn, baby, shit! You almost broke my foot off! He hissed as his hand hit the door.

Sorry! Have a nice day! I snickered as I pulled out the gift to myself. It was a MacBook that I’d been wanting for the past six months. I worked my ass off for this for months, all for my baby to get here safe and sound. I continued to jump up and down, making the house shake, but I didn’t care. I finally got myself together and skipped over to my couch. As soon as I opened my gift, there was a monstrous sound of bass coming from outside. The only thing I felt was the vibration of the bass shaking the house, annoying the fuck out of me.

Fucking thugs get on my damn nerves! I screamed as I got up and walked toward the window to see my neighbor standing outside, arguing with his girlfriend or whatever she was. That whore and I had already gotten into it when I first moved over here about a year ago. I had just moved in this neighborhood, already scared of its reputation of frequent home invasions, illegal activities, and murders. I was moving all my belongings in the house, and out of nowhere, this female came walking up, talking about I was messing with her man.

Bitch, I know you moved in that house so you could be close to my man! She stood there with her hands on her hips, twisting her neck like the hood rat she was. I could admit she was a beautiful girl. She looked like a Barbie, literally. Her blonde, lace-front wig, long, mink eyelashes, and pounds of makeup caked on her face. I noticed she was very petite in size and weight, as I walked up to her, ready solve this problem.

What was that? I didn’t hear you, darling. I held my hand up, cupping my ear as I bent down a little.

You heard me, bitch! I didn’t stutter! She stomped on the ground in place, all dramatically, like she was scaring me. Her purse went crashing to the floor, causing everything to spill out.

Where did you get that from? I’m not even from here. I frowned as I gave her a chance to back down. She stared at me like she was trying to figure out if she had ever seen me before. I reached back, ready to shoot her in the foot just in case she was feeling froggy. Three years ago, I would have never been caught dead with a gun tucked in my shorts, but today was a new day, and this was my life now.

You’re his type, and he’s slick like that. He will make a bitch move next to him and act like he don’t know her when I come around. She crossed her arms and bucked her eyes, showing me that she was as ghetto as they came.

Oh, really? I said as I removed my hand from my back, ready for whatever. I saw movement behind her, but I didn’t take my eyes off her.

Aye! Baby! What the fuck are you doing over there? A short, light-skinned dude came running over into my yard. She turned her back toward me, and I let the gun go, picked up what I was carrying, and walked toward my house. I was glad he came over here to distract her because she didn’t have a clue what was awaiting her.

I know you had something to do with her moving in! I can’t stand yo’ high-yella ass! I heard her say. It was eerily silent, so I turned around to make sure they weren’t about to ambush me. The guy was looking at me curiously as that bitch looked back and forth between us.

I don’t even know her, Monica! Now get your ass in the house right now before I knock yo’ ass out, with your stupid ass! he yelled as he pointed to his house, and she stormed to her car, doing the opposite of what he said.

Fuck you, and I hope she gives you AIDS, Wayne! she said as she hurriedly hopped in the car and drove off, almost running into my mailbox.

That bitch is crazy, man, Wayne mumbled, rubbing his goatee and shaking his head, and he turned his attention back to me. You need some help?

No. I turned around quickly because I didn’t want to be alone with him. I would hate to have to kill his ass for trying me.

Well, damn. I can see you know how to protect yourself. He chuckled as I smiled slightly, opening the door, knowing that he’d seen my gun tucked in the back of my shorts. If you need help with anything, I can help. I’m not a bad guy, and I’ve never been in trouble, so you don’t have to worry about me, sweetie. I walked in and closed the door without responding, knowing that I would never take him up on his offer.

Coming back to the present, I stormed toward the door and opened it. The police would be here any second, and I could not afford for them to be all in my business. One day, they might figure out who I am.

I hate yo’ triflin ass! You always somewhere trying to make a fool out of me! The ghetto bird was still around, trying to clock Wayne’s whereabouts. That shit baffled the fuck out of me. If I thought someone were cheating on me, I would leave, but if I had no proof, I would shut the fuck up.

Girl, if you don’t get your ass out of here before I beat the fuck out of you! I’m sick of your shit, and I know our neighbors are too! And sure enough, majority of them were on their porches, shaking their heads at her. One of them even started to clap, causing the rest of us to laugh.

If that nigga ain’t worried about you now, he ain’t gon’ ever care! Just save your energy on something that really matters in your life! I yelled as I walked up, ready for her to swing.

I was really sick and tired of her antics. Either she was showing up odd times of the day, or she was calling the police on that man. I was honestly tired of her, probably more than him. Even though I tried to act like he didn’t exist, he was a very good neighbor to me. He took my trash that was on the side of my house out, he mowed my yard, and he even washed my car for me a few times. He was genuinely a nice person, so I didn’t know why she chose to fuck with him.

    Bitch, if you don’t—

I pulled my gun out and pointed at her, daring her to say another word. Call me another one. I dare you to, I calmly stated as she took a step back away from Wayne.

Leave that man alone. I’m tired of hearing your mouth, so I know he’s got to be fed up with you, I said as I cocked my gun, ready to pull the trigger. I might just accidentally squeeze it and scare the fuck out of her.

Hold up! Her friend ran up to her, trying to pull her back. I noticed Wayne didn’t say a word. He was probably shocked that I pulled out a gun in the first place. I had all this anger and frustration to take out, but I didn’t have anyone to take it out on.

This was a pretty terrible time to do so, but I was just fed up with her. If she weren’t looking upside my head when I came out the house, she was making smart comments about me like I couldn’t hear her loud ass voice.

Aye, man, let that girl leave. I heard the humor in Wayne’s voice as he grabbed my arm, trying to lower the gun. She ain’t worth a damn for you to lose your freedom for.

I nodded my head, agreeing with him, but I still didn’t lower it.

So I ain’t shit, Wayne? Huh? Monica asked as the tears rolled down her eyes. I could tell that she was truly hurt by his words. She had taken her eye off the gun to focus on him. I almost felt sorry for her at the moment.

Girl, let’s go! I told your ass not to come over here in the first place, her friend mumbled to her. She was literally trying to drag ole girl to the car. I believe she already knew what the outcome was going to be.

I asked you a question, Wayne. Answer me! she yelled, playing tug of war with her friend, trying to get over there to him.

Look, I don’t know what you want me to say. You’re always over here accusing me of cheating, you said I don’t spend enough time with you even though I spend majority of the day texting you, and you’re always complaining about what I do with my money. Oh, and let’s not forget how you continuously call the police on me if I don’t do what you say. Honestly, I’m sick of it. Yeah, I got money, but I don’t want to spend it all. I’m developing a plan for the future, so I’m not about to spend unnecessarily on some bullshit.

How is it bullshit that I like nice things, and I have a boyfriend who can afford it?

You don’t love me; you love the image of me, he said with a stone-cold look on his face. Right then, I zoned out of his rant to take a good look at him. He was about two or three inches taller than me, making him about five eight. He had really thick hair that he had in a short afro, tapered on the side. His front set of teeth overlapped each other, but that didn’t take away from his Kodak smile. Those eyes were hidden in between thick, full lashes that every girl wished for, and he had a natural calmness to his aura. He was very attractive, but he just wasn’t my type.

As I was saying, I know you sucked Austin’s dick after I left yesterday, so I called you over here to dismiss you anyway. My head shot to her direction as she shook her head from side to side repeatedly. Her mouth was open wide as if she were a damn blow-up doll. I wanted to throw something in there so she could close it.

Oooh, bitch, her friend tried to whisper, but we heard her anyway.

I-I … I don’t kn-know what you’re t-talking ab-about, she stuttered, horribly trying to express her innocence. I chuckled a little at her attempt, causing her to cut her eyes at me. She didn’t say a word to me, thankfully. He’s lying to you! I would never do you like that, baby!

Bye, Monica. Wayne grabbed my arm as he tried to pull me to his house.

So you’re just going to leave with her? I knew y’all had something going on! she hissed with her arms clinched to the side of her, fists balled up like she was ready to fight.

Girl, let’s go! You’ve already embarrassed yourself! I watched as her friend yanked her to the car. I almost felt bad for her until she opened her big mouth.

Bitch, you’ll never be me! I’m the only one that has his heart, and you’re just a fucking rebound, you cunt! she screamed as she opened her car door, and I heard a noise as if she were spitting.

    POW! POW! POW!

Those hoes scurried into the car. That crazy ass girl shot at me! I heard one of them holler as I got dragged in the house by Wayne. He was laughing so hard he had tears rolling down his eyes.

Yo’ ass needs help, crazy girl! You saw all them people out there, and you just fire anyway. He shook his head, chuckling.

Bitches love fights until it’s their turn. Yo’ ass is too nice to her. That’s why she thinks she can do as she pleases, but I’m here to show her that I don’t play. Anyway, they should have just got in the car, drove off, and took that loss.

I bet you they know now not to mess with you. Monica was scared as fuck, he said, maneuvering his way to his couch.

And forget those people. They are the same ones that let somebody steal the bricks I decorated with. Who steals bricks? They never touch your stuff, but mine always comes up missing, I said, smirking at him as he rolled around on his couch, laughing. Hush, boy, it was not that funny. I’m just fed up with hoes that can’t keep their mouths closed. Those females like that will make you want to put hands on them.

Hell yeah, but I ignore her when she gets like that. They don’t steal from me, because they know I’ve got rank in the hood. Don’t let the size fool you. He winked, continuing to chuckle, trying to calm his laughter down.

Hey? You got some liquor? I’m ready to pour up, I stated randomly as I sat next to him, looking around his living room. It was renovated on the inside and looked ten times better than what my bum ass house looked like. He didn’t have a lot of decorations, but it was enough to make it look like a home.

    Home?

Why did that bring back so many memories that I wouldn’t care to forget? I sighed and tried to shake the thoughts from my head. I turned to look at Wayne, and he was already staring at me, squinting as if he were trying to take a good look at me. He shook whatever thoughts that were in his head out, and rubbed his hand down his face.

"Yo’ ass got straight to the point. Yeah, man, I
