About this ebook

Just because your life is falling apart around you doesn’t mean you have to fall apart. After watching her best friend get run over, Kay is left feeling, once again, lonely, but she doesn’t let the chaos around her get inside her head. But she can’t keep Sneak out of her mind even if she tried.

With his brother being hurt, his pharmacy expanding, and enemies shooting at him, Sneak tries not to dwell on the fact that Kay has disappeared. He knows that what’s done in the dark always come to light. Even though his mind is telling him to let her be, Sneak’s heart is telling him another thing.

Months after the accident, Angie and Craze adjust to their new situation. In the back of both of their minds, the shadow of the enemy is still following them. Angie finds out that her beautiful secret may be closer than she thinks, but when Craze discovers it, it could be more than he can handle.

Khai, Kay’s sister, moves back and is in for a big surprise. Her attention is taken by another Laurent man, and he’s not one to give up. A chance interaction leads to a new friendship in the time of need for Lux as he uncovers the evidence that can shake the family to the core.

When you throw a savage to the wolves, he always comes back leading the pack. Will the Laurent family survive once the enemy shows their hand, or will they already be a step ahead of them?

When Bae Is A Young Savage 2 - Juliet Avenue

    Chapter One

    Kay

The storm was brewing in the dark sky—lightning striking hard, followed by thunder in the distance. The weather condition went with how I was feeling today—gloomy. His church was filled with mourners that congregated for this misfortune that had occurred. He was gone, and I didn’t know how to feel about it. A part of me did not want to attend the funeral, but I couldn’t do him like that.

Kay, what are you thinking about?

I opened my eyes and looked back at Shira directly behind me. I gazed back out the window, looking at the people who had come from near and far crowd church.

I’m okay, Shira. You know how the weather makes me uneasy sometimes, and all these people in here are not making it better. I like my space so I can think, but here, my mind is too clouded to even do my meditation. I was in my somber mood. Usually, when I got like this, I could recluse and go back into hiding.

Why was I lying? My damn heart was broken, and I missed Denver like crazy.

I know. That’s why I came here. Do you need anything? I know how you felt about him. That’s why I’ve been overprotective a little. She grabbed my shoulders, massaging them while I tried to act unaffected.

Where’s Ann? Does she have our clothes put together?

Shira hesitated, and I knew she was about to spew some bullshit. She said that we didn’t need to chance anyone seeing us, so we should stay up here.

The lie detector determined that was a lie. She really thinks that we are going to sit up here and not attend? My fucking feelings were so hurt. I’d already lost a lot these past three years, and I couldn’t fathom losing anybody else, or I might literally go insane.

I don’t know what she thought, but you know I got us. Shira stopped massaging me as she grabbed the bag she brought in the room. I know you’re going to go crazy, but this is the only way we are going to stay inconspicuous.

When she pulled out that damn nun’s habit, a wimple, and a veil, my head instantly started shaking whatever idea she had off. If this was our only way to go, I would not be attending.

"Lord, forgive me … but hell no! I’m not doing it. We’ve already been here too long, and I have to find us—"

We don’t have time for this, Kay! Do you want to go to the funeral or not? Shira’s arms flailed in the air. That was when I noticed she had gained a few pounds while being there.

Girl, you have packed on a couple of pounds since coming here. My hands went to my hips, admiring her weight gain. Shira was average size when I met her, with a beautiful face. That caramel skin was smooth, and I believed the best attribute were those dimples. She didn’t have very large breasts or butt, and it went well with her personality. You know those types of bodies that could pull any look off? Well, that was type of body she had, but she looked well versed in the hips and breast area. Also, her face was even rounder.

Her hands slapped her face as she groaned. I’m stressed, KayKay, and when stress takes over my life, I eat a little extra here and there.

Well, I like the fullness, though. It makes you look younger, I said as I took a jab at her. She was around the same age as my little sister, Khai. Rarely did I talk about her, but she stayed on my mind. Growing up, I was the person she looked up to, and she followed me everywhere I went, trying to be my protégé. Guiding her to be a successful individual was my life goal when it came to her.

However, when my life took a turn in a different direction, I didn’t want her to be in the crossfire. Khai was an innocent party that didn’t need to go down with her reckless sister, so I distanced myself from her. That was the only way I knew how to protect her. We grew apart, and she started to be the person I didn’t want her to be—a party animal.

My decision caused her to flee from home when she turned eighteen. Although she went to college, she was barely getting by when I disappeared. Yeah, she smiled at me, but from the look in her eyes, I knew that she had given up hope. The worst feeling ever was when the person you were trying to shelter didn’t respect you anymore.

So are you trying to say I look old? Shira’s eyes watered up as she examined her body. That made me roll my eyes at her sensitive ass.

Girl, if you don’t getcho… Hush, man, I’m already on the edge, and you’re about to make me go ahead and take that leap. I rubbed my temples, thinking about the next plan we needed to execute.

Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I meant to ask you, was there any word on your friend Angela? Shira asked with a hopeful look in her eyes, and my head dropped. Temporarily, I had forgotten about that night that my friend and Craze went flying up into the air. I was still a nervous wreck because she saw me or thought she saw me. I didn’t believe she would tell anyone, but I was sure Sneak asked her about it.

Tev said she called and checked on her after it was all on the news so he wouldn’t look suspect. They told him that she was doing fine, and she just broke her arm, but the other guy was in critical condition because of the impact.

Kay, it could have been worse, but they are both alive, and that’s all that matters. She walked up to me to give me a hug. And your crazy ass stole two cars that night! That poor girl was shook!

I tried not to laugh at that statement, but that interview she did was dramatic as fuck. She claimed I beat her over the head with a gun, and her description of me wasn’t even close. When the news station posted a sketch of Gabourey Sidibe, Tevin and I hollered.

Well, I’m sorry about the first girl, but Mona can kiss this natural black ass of mine.

The police found the girl from the curb store’s car in the neighborhood I left it in, and that was when they found out that Mona’s car was missing too. She claimed that it was a brand-new car, but the police found out otherwise.

No one saw who took her car, but they did find fingerprints in that girl’s car. When they ran them, they came back belonging to a dead woman, thanks to Thick, so I didn’t have anything to worry about.

But anyway, there won’t be any seats left if we don’t hurry up. Are we going or not? Shira stood up and started to put on her clothes.

Nope, and that’s my final answer.

    Thirty minutes later…

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arm around you and said, ‘Son, come with me.’ With tearful eyes, we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, and your hard-working hands were put to rest. My God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

Tears flowed down my eyes as I watched him lay in the casket, not even thinking about this ridiculous nun outfit I had on. I didn’t even think to wipe my eyes. This hit home hard, and it was going to be a long road to recovery. Tevin looked so peaceful lying there, and that was what made me accept his departure.

Over the past few months, Tev had explained to me that the cancer in his liver had returned, but he didn’t want to get treatment. It’s my time, was all he would tell me every time I begged him to finish his treatment. Most of the time, he ignored me and went on with his life as if he hadn’t been in pain. Watching him fight for his life was the devastating event that I had even been through in my life.

Tevin had come into my life when I didn’t have anyone to trust. The confessional was where we accidently stumbled upon each other. I confessed all my sins, and from the general information I gave him, he could put two and two together. He promised to keep me safe until I figured out if I wanted to move an hour away from my old stomping ground.

The night before he died, we talked about how my life needed to change drastically.

How are you feeling, Tev? Do you need anything to make you feel comfortable? I inquired as I walked into his room.

He was sitting up in his bed, eyes stapled out the window. His weight had decreased so severely over the past few months that he didn’t even look like the same person. I’m good, Kay. Come in and sit down for a second. There’s something that has been placed on my heart. He tapped the bed, telling me where to sit.

I walked to his bedside, scared of what I may hear. Honestly, if he told me to let all of this go and take my black ass home, I would have because I cared about him so much.

He turned his head in my direction as we both stared at each other. Listen to me and listen well. Don’t waste your time on revenge; those that hurt you will eventually meet karma. He held his hand up to stop me from replying. Hold up. I didn’t mean give up on seeking justice, but you must go at this situation with a different outlook. Your way didn’t work, so try a different approach.

Sitting there, thinking of what he could possibly mean, a thought came to me. You’re saying, don’t seek revenge on those who did me wrong? Seek justice?

Yes, make them pay legally, and that will kill them the most. A tarnished reputation will have them on their knees, begging for your mercy, so put that gun up, but use it when it is necessary, he explained and went on a coughing spree. Frail was not an accurate word for his condition right then. To be honest, he was knocking on death’s door.

You remember when Shira put that gun up to your head when she first met you? Man, I thought she was going to pull the trigger. I giggled, trying to change the subject. I don’t know what she thought you were going to do in a priest outfit.

I heard that! Shira yelled as she walked through the door with a questionable look on her face. Charge it to my gun, not my heart. We all laughed together for the last time before he passed away in his sleep that morning.

The whole funeral passed by while I sat there, trying not to have a nervous breakdown. After it was over, we needed to head to our next destination. I didn’t intend to stay this long, but I couldn’t leave Tevin here.

Shira elbowed me and discreetly pointed to Sharon, the sweetest and youngest nun out of the bunch.

She mouthed, ‘I have something to give to you after the funeral.’

I nodded my head and tuned out the rest of the sermon.

One day, I asked her what made her become a nun, and she said that all her life, she’d always been in and out of foster care with no one to look out for her until she met her boyfriend. He was an older guy that sold drugs for a living.

When she was twenty, he got her addicted to hardcore drugs, and her life went downhill from there. After overdosing one night, he took her to the hospital and left her there for them to care for her. She woke up looking for him, and he had vanished, leaving her with a broken heart.

Ann was at the hospital, passing out brochures and praying over patients and their families. She came to Sharon’s room and told her it was time to devote her life to the church. Right then, Sharon felt the Holy Spirit come over her, and she did what was already planned for her.

As soon as I stopped daydreaming, they were taking the body out. I hurried to my room to pack. Shira had already packed and was just waiting for me. There was a tiny knock at the door, and I already knew who it was.

Come in, Sharon, I said, throwing my clothes into Tev’s suitcases he’d let me and Shira have.

You’re leaving me? She pouted as she walked in and sat on the bed. Her eyes roamed at all the miscellaneous items I had laying out.

I have to get going. This was only supposed to be temporary, but since Tev decided he wanted to die, I stayed. I tried to show some humor, but her holy ass sat there, looking at me. So, um … what was it that you needed to speak to me about?

Tevin left something for you. He gave it to me even before you came and made me promise to find you so that you could get his package. Sharon handed me a large manila folder full of papers.

What’s this? My face frowned as I skimmed through the papers. Sharon snatched the papers out of my hand, and I almost forgot who she was. The hell, Sharon? I folded my arms under my chest so I wouldn’t hit her.

I-I apologize, Kay, Sharon stuttered as she started rubbing the cross that was on her neck. He told me to tell you to wait until you left to open it. Vital information is stored on those pages, and it will help you in the long run.

I sighed as my shoulders got tense. Did he give you any hints? My eyebrows went up, and I stared at Sharon’s uneasy facial expression.

    N-no just—

Sharon, we have to greet the guests for the repast, Sister Ann said, sounding as if she were standing outside my door. Give Shira my love, Kay, and you guys be careful. If you need shelter, please, come back. Tevin loved you and cared for you, so we will do the same.

Honestly, I was shocked to even hear Ann say those words. She acted as if we were a burden on them, but I knew that was probably just her nature.

Okay, I’m coming, Sharon responded, making her way to the door. Stay safe, and contact me if you have any questions. Pointing to the envelope, she backed out the door and shut it.

Once Shira and I grabbed our raincoats and made it down the hall to the back door, I felt eyes on me. As much as I didn’t want to turn around, I did. A pair of eyes that belonged to Ann were on us. She smiled at me, and I returned the favor. After stepping out the door, Shira grabbed my arm and ushered me to the new car that Tev got me before he died. We’d gotten rid of the other car the morning after I got there.

You know I’m curious, boo, so what’s in that folder you got?

I walked to the driver’s side as she walked to the passenger seat. Some papers Sharon told me that Tevin left for me to read when I got on the road, I explained, pulling my hood off and looking out the car window, watching the rain tap against it. Man, this was unexpected, and now I don’t know where we should go from here. Do you think we should just leave it alone?

    "Kay, you’ve always
