About this ebook

A book consisting of three stories. The first story, When the Narrator Chimes in, is about a young woman named Hara just trying to find her happily ever after. The second is a story told through poems as out-of-order memories about the end of the world. And the third story is about a small girl waking up in a post-apocalyptic universe filled with robots and space-warping doors.

    When the Narrator Chimes in

There is a young woman crying her heart out at a party in some countryside mansion that she can not recall the name to. She hangs her head over the balcony letting her tears fall to the ground below. She can't afford to get even a single tear on her fancy outfit, her friends will know she's been crying and it will get back to her parents and, worse, her rival.

She cries because her shoes are too tight, her hair is giving her a headache, the dress barely lets her breathe, and, to top it all off her rival manages to get a dance with the man of her dreams.

Get it together, Hara, she speaks to herself. There has got to be a way to turn this night around. If only Kyra would stop getting in the way. What does Umber even see in her? There has to be a way to get rid of her.

Hara places her weight on the balcony railing, it wobbles. She pulls away, afraid it will give if she doesn't. She recalls how Kyra loves to sit on these higher railings, placing herself a head higher than anyone around her.

All I have to do is get her out here... The moment her height complex kicks in, I'll lean on the railing just enough. It'll look like an accident... Hara speaks as though in a trance.

Stop it! Stop it right now, Hara! I can't let you go through with that, a male voice calls out.

Hara turns around and there is no one. She peeks back inside and there's no one hiding from view.

    Hello?

Hara, I'm sorry to yell, but I can't watch you ruin your life for a guy who... who doesn't even know your name, the voice returns.

Oh no, has my jealousy drove me mad?

No, no, just calm down. I'm a Narrator.

    A Narrator?

Yes, I'm a part of a story-loving race. We like to peek in and observe and record stories. I'm only allowed to interfere under extreme circumstances. And I wholeheartedly think your story could end so much better.

"Really? I don't know... I've spent so much time trying to catch Umber's attention... and what about my family
