    Sarah Laurens watched the blossoming trees pass as the carriage rumbled down the lane. It would be a relief to disembark from the bouncing seat. She was hot and tired from her long journey. She longed for a bath and to rest in her own soft bed. Her month long visit to Paris had been lovely and exciting. Uncle Jacob and Aunt Nettie were kind and generous. They had proved to be the perfect hosts for a young lady seeking adventure.

    Sarah had pleaded with her parents for one last month of freedom. Upon her return, she had promised to be cooperative in the choosing of a husband. She was quite put off by the choices her father had suggested before her journey. She found the idea of being wed to a dandy or a blue jacket repulsive. She much preferred a handsome gent with roguish good looks and a sense of humor.

    The carriage halted before the stately house. Sarah patted her red curls and straightened her blue traveling dress. It would not do to appear disheveled when she begged her father for more time. She intended to wrap him around her finger as she had done since birth. She was her father's little darling and had learned to use it to her advantage.
