    Caroline Bexley laid across the old chaise lounge that she, her sister, and mother had acquired upon moving into the quaint Wrottesley manor. Maybe quaint was not a fair word. Certainly, the Bexley's London property had been similar in size when Caroline compared the whole property. It just so happened that firstly, Caroline and her family were confined to a small portion of the property set aside just for them, and secondly, that it was smaller than many of the sprawling manors that lined the English countryside nearby.

    Caroline attempted to cool herself with a gorgeous fan given to her as a gift from her recently deceased father. That was the reason the Bexley women found themselves living in a set away part of a manor belonging to complete strangers, besides the fact that they went to church regularly here the eldest Bexley, George Bexley, was a clergyman. Having such a humble position meant living in the church's parish and having no room of his own to help his two female siblings and mother, but he was able to convince a kind couple in his church to take them in. Caroline hated being charity, however. It had never been that way for her in London.

    When is this heat wave going to end! Mariah, Caroline's younger sister, complained as she entered the room, her hair in childish curls as if she was not about to be out in society. Their mother liked to keep her young, though, since Caroline was only moments away from being a wife. Well, at least in London,
