    The Bondi Finz™ Shark Frog - S J House

    Chapter One

    Head & Shred

It’s another beautiful morning at Bondi. Human feet and legs march up and down Hall Street, which is lined with clothes shops, cafes, and restaurants. Skateboarders whiz down the hill, surfers run down to the beach, and a dog wees up a garbage bin.

One particular shop stands out from the rest. It’s a very cool-looking barber and surf shop combination called Head & Shred. Heading into the barbershop door, we see all of the Finz sitting in a row in their barber’s chairs, facing mirrors while wearing black barber’s capes. But they’re not having their hair cut. Oh no, they don’t have any hair. They are having their fins polished, though Sharp is also getting his moustache trimmed.

Hey, Mario! Flash, dwarfed by the size of his barber’s chair, studies his reflection in the giant mirror. Can I get a bit more of a polish on the sides? Oh, can you reshape the top just a little too, please?

Mario the fin barber stands behind Flash. All you can see are his giant hands holding onto a polishing machine. He speaks English with a very strong Italian accent. "Of course, Flash, signore, I will do this for you, no problema at all. And maybe a little polish on your attachment, no? Hmm?"

Flash flicks stern eyes up to Mario, unimpressed. Watch it, buddy! Nobody touches my attachment! Got it?

Mario sighs. Oh, of course, Flash, I am so sorry. I will leave it alone.

Flash shakes his head, as he glances across to the others. Hey, Bone, mate, what are you having done?

Bone flicks through a skate magazine. I’m getting my wood polished real good, Flash. Suddenly, Bone shoots his eyes up at his fin barber. Hey, buddy! Go easy on the top, will ya? I don’t want my D-Fin looking out of shape! You hear me? D don’t stand for dents!

A skinny, blond, hairy-headed barber stops the polishing machine, replying in a whiny voice, Oh, sorry, Bone. It won’t happen again.

Bone ruffles his magazine with a stern face. I should hope not, man! Cause D stands for define. Remember that!

Sure, Bone, I got it, the barber replies, switching the polishing machine back on.

Tutting, Bone goes back to reading his magazine.

In his seat, Sharp does some kind of Tai Chi while his moustache is trimmed. Arr, go easy on the sides, bro. Arr, I don’t want you messing with my surf sliding chi, arr. I need to create positive lines in the waves, arr.

The barber stops the trimming machine, his forehead scrunched up in confusion. He begins to say something when Woody notices the expression on the barber’s face.

Don’t even bother asking, mate. It’s not worth it, bro.

The barber winks at Woody before starting the clipping machine again, going easy on Sharp’s sides.

Syke relaxes in his chair, still wearing his sunglasses. The barber gets too close to them as he polishes his fin. Hey, bro! Watch the shades, man! These are, like, vintage!

The exasperated barber cuts the polishing machine. He talks in a posh English accent. "I’m sorry, Mr. Syke,
