    Simple Knits - Claire Crompton

    Embellished Cuffs

These cute fingerless mitts look great peeking out from beneath the sleeves of your jacket and are embellished with a heart-shaped button motif.

    Skill Level- Beginner

    You Will Need

    Yarn

    •  1 [2:2] x 1³⁄4oz (50g) ball of light-weight (DK) wool yarn (123yd/112m) in pale blue

    Knitting Needles

    •  One pair size 6 (4mm)

    Other Materials

    •  12 heart-shaped shell buttons approx ³⁄4in (15mm) wide

    •  2 round shell buttons approx ³⁄4in (15mm) in diameter

    Finished Measurements

    To fit sizes S [M:L]; width around palm is 7 [8:8³⁄4]in (18 [20.5:22]cm) and 5 [5¹⁄2:6]in (12.5 [14:15]cm) long, excluding frill

    Gauge

    22 sts and 28 rows to 4in (10cm) measured over st st (1 row k, 1 row p) using size 6 (4mm) needles

    Knit Notes

To make the frill edging, a large number of stitches are cast on but these are quickly reduced over two rows using a simple knit decrease and p2tog.

    Knit Your Cuffs (Make 2)

    Cast on 160 [176:192] sts.

Row 1 *K2, lift the first st over the second st: rep from * to end. 80 [88:96] sts

    Row 2 P2tog to end. 40 [44:48] sts

    Knit 1 row.

    Purl 1 row.

    Knit 4 rows.

Work in st st, beg with a k row, until work measures 4¹⁄2[5:5¹⁄2]in (11 [12.5:13.5]cm) from beg of g st border, ending with a p row.

    Knit 4 rows.

    Cast off.

    Finish Your Cuffs

Sew in all ends. Press pieces according to instructions on ball band. Fold cuff in half and sew edges together from top for 1¹⁄2in (3.5cm). Finish off yarn. Leave a 1¹⁄4in (3cm) gap then join rest of seam down to frill and join edges of frill.

    BUTTON MOTIF

On the back of each cuff, arrange six heart-shaped buttons around the center round button into a flower shape. Sew each button into place.

    Rib Stitch Wristwarmers

The chunky rib stitch of these wristwarmers means they will stretch to fit your hands without any shaping.

    Skill Level- Easy

    You Will Need
