Shit, I Got Fired: A short, no B.S. guide on how to get hired after being unexpectedly fired
By Dick Barlik
()
About this ebook
The author speaks from experience in offering advice on what to do right away, what NOT to do immediately after being fired, and the proper strategies to follow for landing the next opportunity. The advice ranges from minute details like being sure to save your tailored resumes in different folders so you don't send the wrong one, to broader concepts like being prepared with questions at interviews.
The advice is practical and straightforward, if nothing revolutionary. "Shit, I got Fired" is like a lighthouse in the dark for someone who feels lost after being suddenly fired. It offers direction, a way forward in a dark time.

Foreword
This book is for you. I am not here to give you fluffy motivational advice that leaves you inspired, but without direction. I trust that you are already inspired enough to pursue your next job and that you need some real advice to follow. This book includes actual actions you can take in order to go from being unexpectedly fired to successfully hired. It is advice I have gathered from my own successes and failures. This advice has already helped others land their next job after getting fired. I have tried to keep it short and clear because I imagine the last thing you want to read right now is a long, dense book. Before you take any action on your job search, take a few hours to finish this. A few simple tips may shorten your transition period by several months.
Introduction
Getting fired sucks. Getting fired blows. Getting fired can be the fucking worst. Getting fired can also be the best (looking backward).
This book was written just for you, the guy or gal who just got fired. I’ve gotten fired before, and look at me now—I’m an author!
Just kidding. I found a job after I got fired, and then I thought I would write a book for others who could benefit from all the special knowledge I gained throughout the process, knowledge that will help you endure the just got fired
phase and help you land your next job.
Don’t worry—this isn’t another soft-spoken self-help book written by some washed-out maniac who claims to be a life coach
after forty years of never discovering what they want to do. It is not written by someone who has never had to utilize public transportation. This book will not just leave you passively motivated, but rather will give you a set of actionable steps that will take you where you want to go. If you are reading this and you just got fired as a life coach, it is likely that you were self-employed, and you fired yourself. You can skip the remainder of the book and rehire yourself now.
Regardless of the industry in which you work, or seek to work, the contents of this book will be relevant to you. It will be applicable to you whether you are looking for a blue-collar job or a white-collar job. The advice that follows will also be relevant to you regardless of age, sex, or any other demographic factor.
I am not going to go into great detail about my life—that would be a complete waste of your time (and mine, since I had to talk about myself way too much during the interview process). However, I am sure you want to know enough about me to be comfortable taking my advice.
I am from Philadelphia. I graduated college, and I have an MBA. For all of you who are thinking, Of course this guy got a new job; he has an MBA,
you need to abandon this thinking. You and I both have plenty of peers who are doing way better than us and yet have less formal
education. I was on the recruiting team at a very large and well-known company, and no hiring decision ever came down to where someone earned their degree or whether they had a graduate school education.
While in college,
