About this ebook
This book describes Cryptic Pregnancy, Diagnosis and Treatment and Related Diseases
This is the first that I have read and wrote about Cryptic pregnancy
I have heard about women who did not know that they were pregnant until they deliver but I did know that it is called Cryptic pregnancy until now.
Cryptic pregnancy is a pregnancy where a pregnant woman is unaware of her pregnancy until labor.
During this pregnancy there is little or no detectable Human chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in the mothers system.
Very often, bodily symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, amenorrhea and abdomen swelling) are absent or greatly reduced, and neonates tend to be underweight
In many cases, pregnancy goes undetected also by relatives and doctors.
Cryptic pregnancy differs from to denial of pregnancy, a psychological disorder, where the woman is subconsciously aware of her pregnancy but denies its presence.
Some of these women do not know that they are indeed pregnant and some of them do know, but the medical community does not recognize that these pregnancies are present.
It is estimated that about 1 in 450 pregnant women does not know of her pregnancy status until 20 weeks/5months or later (more than halfway through the pregnancy), and 1 in 2,500 is not aware of her pregnancy until she finally goes into labor.
A cryptic pregnancy, also called a stealth pregnancy, is a pregnancy that conventional medical testing methods may not be able to detect.
Cryptic pregnancies are not frequent, but they are not unknown either.
It is frustrating if the patient is hoping to be pregnant, and become convinced that the patient is, only to be told that according to a blood or urine test, it is not possible.
These frequent causes can be medical, social or both
A. Medical;
Hormonal imbalance as seen in:
1. Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
2. Peri-menopause, which can begin as early as age 30, and go undetected.
3. Recently pregnant women whose hormones have not gone back to normal before getting pregnant again.
4. Lactating mothers whose hormones are not back to normal, before getting pregnant again.
5. Women with a very low body fat percentage, causing a hormonal imbalance, like in female athletes.
6. Women who have recently used or are presently using a birth control method such as the Norplant, Deprovera injection or the Mirena Coil that constantly releases hormones into the body.
7. Anterior Placenta;
If the placenta is placed at the front of the uterus (an anterior placenta), the baby movements may not be sensed as easily
B. Social
Ignorance:
While most women understand that pregnancy indicates their periods will (probably) stop and that their bodies will alter shape, not all women are well educated enough to notice subtler signs such as breast tenderness, constipation, etc.
If the woman does not gain much weight and she persists to bleed while pregnant, she may not realize she is pregnant.
C. Belief:
When a woman truly thinks she cannot become pregnant (e.g., due to her use of an IUD, or due to many years of trying without success), she may not be able to correctly interpret fetal movement, and can convince herself it is just indigestion or gas
When the patient is having a cryptic pregnancy, there is no symptom that sets off the chain of events that result in discovering that the patient is pregnant.
1. Urine and blood tests for pregnancy come back negative due to fluctuating hormone levels.
2. There is no sign of pregnancy on the ultrasound due to difficulty in detecting the fetus.
3. Early labor contractions occur and feel like period cramping.
Labor and delivery at the end of a cryptic pregnancy will be physically similar to any other pregnancy

Introduction
I have been writing medical articles for my blog: http://kennethkee.blogspot.com (A Simple Guide to Medical Disorder) for the benefit of my patients since 2007.
My purpose in writing these simple guides was for the health education of my patients.
Health Education was also my dissertation for my Ph.D (Healthcare Administration).
I then wrote an autobiography account of my journey as a medical student to family doctor on my other blog: http://afamilydoctorstale.blogspot.com.
This autobiography account A Family Doctor’s Tale
was combined with my early A Simple Guide to Medical Disorders
into a new Wordpress Blog A Family Doctor’s Tale
on http://kenkee481.wordpress.com.
From which many free articles from the blog was taken and put together into 800 eBooks.
Some people have complained that the simple guides are too simple.
For their information they are made simple in order to educate the patients.
The later books go into more details of medical disorders.
The first chapter is always from my earlier blogs which unfortunately tends to have typos and spelling mistakes.
Since 2013, I have tried to improve my spelling and writing.
As I tried to bring the patient the latest information about a disorder or illness by reading the latest journals both online and offline, I find that I am learning more and improving on my own medical knowledge in diagnosis and treatment for my patients.
Just by writing all these simple guides I find that I have learned a lot from your reviews (good or bad), criticism and advice.
I am sorry for the repetitions in these simple guides as the second chapters onwards have new information as compared to my first chapter taken from my blog.
I also find repetition definitely help me and maybe some readers to remember the facts in the books more easily.
I apologize if these repetitions are irritating to some readers.
Chapter 1
Cryptic Pregnancy
What Is a Cryptic Pregnancy?
It is evaluated that about 1 in 450 pregnant women does not know of her pregnancy status until 20 weeks/5months or later (more than halfway through the pregnancy), and 1 in 2,500 is not aware of her pregnancy until she finally goes into labor.
A cryptic pregnancy, also called a stealth pregnancy, is a pregnancy that conventional medical testing methods may
