A Collection of Thoughts - Corrina Aries
HEART TRUTH
––––––––
the truth
when spoken
doesn’t always
set you free
rather
it reveals
the heart in ways
that can sometimes
hold you tight
in the bondage
of your shame
MIDLIFE
––––––––
You are never old
until you realize
that the best years
of your life
were spent doing
shit you didn’t want to do
for too little money
for people who didn’t appreciate it.
All that time spent—
in frivolous pursuit
of tedious disappointment
—you can never get back.
SHEDDING NESTS
––––––––
I was sick with a bad cold
that for some reason
took weeks to get over
Not just the symptoms
but the numbness inside
the emptiness crowding in there
left me wanting to die
When talking to family
or strangers in public
I wanted only to get lost
between the pages of a book
until the coughing stopped
until I could breathe
