Chapter 1

The day started out like any other. Sue went through her morning routine of things before she got in her car to go to work at the hospital. She was on psyche duty for the next 10 days.  Psyche duty is where she had to work at the crisis department of the hospital’s emergency room. She enjoyed her work sometimes and sometimes she didn’t enjoy it.

When she did have some spare time, she would spend studying for her degree in forensics. She wanted to cover all areas of social work, behavioral sciences and forensics. Those subjects were to her, fun to learn about. Most people thought she was a little bit crazy for enjoying learning about that, but she didn’t care.

Sue had a life partner who is going to have a baby. Karen got pregnant by in vitro fertilization. She is 8 months along. Karen is a child services advocate. She helps place children that are being abused or had been abandoned, into new homes with loving families. She often went to court and talk to the judge about the kids that needed to be removed from unfit parents. Sue and Karen were very happy together. That would soon be put to the test.

It was January 2nd 1991. Sue and Karen went off to work. Sue dropped Karen off at the courthouse where her office was. They kissed goodbye. Sue said she would pick her up after work. Karen seemed a little nervous today. Sue took note of that. Honey, what’s bothering you? Karen looked down at her thick bunch of files in her bag. I have to meet with the judge and a court appointed attorney of a young lady that the judge and the attorney are thinking that she is not a fit mother. I personally agree with everyone on this case. The baby was born a month premature. The mother is schizophrenic with delusions and has been like that her whole life. This baby was born with so many health problems it’s just unreal. The likelihood of this child surviving and becoming a mature adult is only a 1% chance. If she, the mother, gets custody of this child, I am sure the baby will die, or end up abused. The mother has too many problems mentally to be a good and proper mother. Her own parents don’t want her to be a mother either. They have told me and the attorney all about the hell that she has been through and caused during her childhood and teenage years. I have read some of the reports by her teachers and even some of her own writings. She looked at me last monday like I was the devil himself. She scared me. I am usually not scared of people, but this woman is an incredibly violent person. I can see it in her face and I can hear it within her voice. She gives me the heebie jeebies. Sue and Karen both laughed, and kissed once more. Karen got out of the car. For some reason, Sue felt sad. O.K. grow up Sue! She said to herself. She went off to the hospital to start her own day of work.

Chapter 2

It was 10:45 A.M. The boss walked in and started to talk to Sue. "Well, Sue, how are you doing? How’s Karen doing? I know she is gonna be happy next month when the baby comes. 

James and I are getting married on Valentines day. I was wondering if you would like to attend the wedding. You and Karen are like family to James and I. Sue beamed with joy. OH my gosh! Brad! That is fantastic. We will be there! I am glad you think of us as family. Haha I hope the baby doesn’t come on Valentines day." They both started laughing. Brad’s pager began beeping.

O.k. I have to split. There has been a traffic accident on the San Francisco bridge. Ugh! I hate it when they crash on that bridge. I will let you know if we need any help. Brad dashed out the door. Sue decided to meander down to the emergency room just incase she was needed for a shoulder to cry on or what not.

She started talking to the victims family. All 5 that were in the car did not survive. A mother father and 3 kids died. The kids were thrown from the car. They didn’t have a seat belt on and the father and mother died only minutes after arriving at the hospital. The hospital chaplin came and helped out as well.

Brad walked out of the emergency room to the staff room. He had to get cleaned up. Once he did that, he came in and sat down on the comfy couch. Ugh! That was just horrible! The kids didn’t have a seatbelt on. Neither did the parents. The father was driving and he had a blood alcohol level of 1.3! I am thinking that most likely is what caused the wreck. He was so drunk he could not judge how fast or how far off the road he was. There were 2 other cars that he plowed into, but they just had minor injuries. They were treated and released. Sue gave Brad a friendly hug and got him a cup of coffee. Don’t worry Brad. Everything will be fine. Next person that comes through your doors for you to treat, you will end up saving them. Brad chuckled. Your right Sue. I am glad that your around. Not only are you around for the patients and families, your here for the doctors and nurses as well. Sue blushed. She wanted to see how Karen was doing. She paged her. Karen did not answer the page like she usually did. This made Sue worry. She began worrying because it was lunch time now and usually Karen would have paged her by now.

Sue heard a bunch of racket going on in the emergency room. Everyone was watching the big screen t.v. in the nurses station. There was a breaking news story coming in.

Chapter 3

Sue! Come up front quickly! Erika screamed in a panicked voice. Ericka was the head nurse in charge of all nurses on staff that day. The news reporter came on and began talking.

"We have breaking news to bring you. There is a hostage situation in Judge Connelly’s courtroom lobby. Where a woman has taken a CPS worker hostage. The lady who took the woman had just lost a case and lost full parental rights to her own child. She got very hostile after the judge said that she would never ever see her child again. The child services advocate was in the lobby and the woman that took her hostage had snuck a knife in the courthouse. It was very fast. The security guards tried to take the woman down, but she held the knife to the ladies throat and threatened to kill her and her unborn baby. The child services advocate is 8 months pregnant. We will bring you more news as it comes in. But for now the courthouse is completely in lock down. No entry is allowed at this time. The swat team has been called."

Sue began having a very bad panic attack. OH MY GOD! Karen! THAT BITCH HAS my Karen!  We have to get over there and save her! Sue began to gather her stuff when Doctor Bentley came up to her and said Listen Sue, The police are doing all they can. They can't have you diving in there and trying to get your partner back and then getting yourself killed. Sue glared at Doctor Bentley and said, You don’t get it do you? That monster has my wife, AND my soon to be born child. They are the only thing that is important now. If you will excuse me I am going to go rescue my family. Doctor Bentley nodded and had officer Winkler go with her.

They got to the courthouse very quickly. But it took a while before they could reach the 10th floor. Police had shut the elevators off so that there wouldn’t be an easy exit. They had to go up 10 flights of stairs. Sue thought she was going to have a heart attack before she even got there. Officer Winkler tried to make her stop for a breath but Sue was not having any of that.

When they arrived at the 10th floor stairwell, there was an officer there guarding that door so that she couldn’t get past. Sue breathlessly said, Let me in there. That’s my wife and unborn child. I work at the hospital as a crisis worker. I can do hostage negotiations as well. Here is my credentials if you want them. The officer opened the door and let Sue in. Sue’s heart was pounding. She could barely breathe. Officer Winkler was right beside her. Sue whispered What is the lady’s name? Her name is Lisa. The officer said.

Hi Lisa. My name is Sue. I am here to help you. What can I do to get you to let my wife go? Lisa held Karen very tightly. I’m sorry to say this ma’am but I have no intentions of giving her up. Lisa’s face began to get very red. Her voice began getting an rageful tone to it as she spoke again. This bitch allowed the judge to STEAL MY BABY BEFORE I EVER GOT A CHANCE!  Her breathing was fast. Lisa, please calm down. I know you don’t know Karen that well, but please understand this, she is going to have a baby in about a month. You wouldn’t want to do anything to hurt her, now would you?  Sue tried a calm approach to the situation. SUE! HOW COULD YOU BE SO CALM? THIS WOMAN IS GOING TO KILL ME! I KNOW SHE IS Karen screamed. She had a look of disgust on her face. Tears began to flow down Karen’s face. Sue saw this and it tore her up knowing she could do nothing just yet.

Karen, please calm down honey. It’s going to be alright. Lisa laughed maniacally then said, You IMBECILES! You will NEVER get her back. You won't even get the baby back. My knife blade is very, very sharp and I am NOT afraid to use it either. You all need to get the hell out of my way. I am taking her where your never going to see her again. And you won't get your baby either. That baby will belong to me. He or she is going to know me as momma. Sue shook her head and pleaded for Lisa to drop the knife and let Karen go.

Lisa, let’s talk reality for a moment here. You are the ONLY one that is holding Karen hostage. You’re a few inches taller than her, but you’re alone. You can’t possibly Just as she was talking, Sue heard a muffled sound like someone had been struggling with someone or something. She turned for a brief second to see that 3 huge muscular men were coming through the stairwell. They all were at least 6 feet tall and built like wrestlers. What’s worse is they had, what looked like guns with a very sharp serrated edged knife attached to it. It looked like it was home made. Sue couldn’t really tell because things were going so fast that it wasn’t possible to see what the guns were made of or even what brand.

One of the men pushed Sue to the ground, grabbed hold of Karen, and the other 3 encircled Karen and Lisa with their guns pointed at anyone who would have attempted to rescue Karen. Lisa still held the knife to Karen’s neck. They made a dash down the stairs. Karen was trying hard to stall them by tripping and stumbling on the stairs. The biggest man grabbed Karen. Look lady, your going to stop stumbling and your going to cooperate with us. If you don’t, you won't live. She began crying. "Stop your crying. I have no  sympathy for you. You helped steal my baby! Well I am going to not only steal your baby but I think I may even destroy you and feed you to the sharks. Lisa laughed. One of the men looked at Lisa and spoke softly, Hey now, let’s not do that. Let her live, but if you want, just keep the baby. Why kill the woman? Lisa looked at the man and said Do you want to die too? I don’t have a problem killing you. Besides you can’t live without me. I own you, heart and soul! I own the other 3 too. Not you nor any of the others are going to disobey me. Right? Yes dear. We love you. We will not disobey you. You’re our princess. They all said in unison. Lisa smiled coyly and sweetly said, Good boys! You know the rules.  I will go bring the van around front. Roger said. Gary I need you to stay behind while I get the van. Be ready to get in the van quickly. Make sure Lisa and the lady are protected." Adam and Don began tying up Karen so that she couldn’t make an escape. Roger and Lisa went to the emergency exit with their guns cocked and ready to shoot if need be. The four guys were all carrying bear repellent, which was the most powerful mace like product. Lisa also had some, but it was far more poisonous. It was homemade mace. One shot of her mace could not only blind a person but could peel the skin off you.

Outside there were police officers all around but they were not able to see anything. Gary tossed out a stink grenade that was also filled with Lisa’s homemade mace concoction. They were all swearing. The dogs that were with the officers were yelping in pain from the mace getting in their eyes. Lisa Gary Adam Don and Roger walked fast through the smelly smoke. Lisa put a wet cloth rag that she had brought with her, over Karen’s mouth and nose so that she would not have to ingest the stuff. Roger looked at her and smiled. Don’t look at me that way Roger. I don’t give a damn about her. I want her baby to be fine. Well I mean my baby. I don’t want my baby to have any problems. Roger nodded. Gary and Adam had a few more stink grenades that they threw in the stairwell to keep anyone from following. As soon as Roger had the van pulled around, they shoved Karen in. Lisa got in front and the others that were not driving, got in the back with Karen.

Chapter 4

There was still a very heavy smog like smoke in the building. Fire alarms were blaring loudly. The sprinklers were also going off. The entire building was being evacuated because of the stench. Sue and the others were given gas masks to make it easier to navigate the stairs. She was so angry. She was angry at Lisa and at the other officers and she was even mad at herself. She told officer Winkler that she was mad at herself because she did nothing to rescue Karen. Sue! Don’t you dare blame yourself! You were only going by protocol! What else could you have done? Your not superwoman! Sue rolled her eyes in derigion and said "I know I’m not superwoman. But that happens to be my wife and child. We have to find them and find them quickly. Are the security cameras working?" Officer Winkler called the security officers to meet outside for a meeting. He also had the judge get the address and phone number for Lisa.

Once they all reached the outside, officer Winkler found the security officers. Any information guys? The security officer John Marks, spoke up. Alright. This is what we have. We have her home phone number, her home address and we also know that the vehicle that she and her friends are in have been stolen. The owner and passengers of the vehicle were beaten up and tied to telephone poles. Their clothes were stripped off and stolen. I am telling you right now this woman and her friends are twisted! Sue looked at him and said, Let’s just get on the ball and go to where we know she will be and get this thing over and done with. I am sure I will be able to talk to her and get my wife back. And get her back Alive too. I am hoping that Lisa will give up with no fights or anything and we can put her away for a very long time. Now lets see what the security cameras saw. Officer Winkler gave a sigh and then told Sue that the cameras were spray painted over. They used some sort of black spray paint attached to a grabber. They hid around a corner, sprayed the camera and went on to the next one. The men who are her friends actually are being controlled by her. She speaks and they basically bend over and kiss her ass. I think she is like their boss or something. She has our numbers. I hope she calls. Sue shook her head The likelihood of her doing something normal is like the likelihood that Jesus will come down and dance in his birthday suit in the middle of the day. The security guard said sarcastically. They all busted out in laughter at that comment.

Chapter 5

Sue looked at the security officers and the others as well. "Are you all STUPID!? She is not just going to call us and tell us where she is! She seems to have plotted this out for a while perhaps. Next question is where is she going to go. Who has the licence plate of the van? Who are those men that came in with those crazy guns? I want some answers and I want the answers RIGHT NOW! Officer Winkler sat down on the steps outside the courthouse with a few file folders in his hands. Sue, please listen. I don’t think you’re going to be able to go on this quest to find her. You are too close to the victims. Why don’t you let the other officers and swat members go? I am sure they will Sue interrupted. I AM GOING TO RESCUE MY WIFE AND CHILD. NOT YOU OR ANY OTHER OFFICER WILL STOP ME. THAT IS MY FAMILY. I REFUSE TO BACK DOWN. YOU ALL ARE GOING TO WORK WITH ME. If you don’t I won’t let ANY of you live it down. I will be all over your asses forever. Now give me the phone. I want to call Dennis. He is the head of the hostage negotiators. Sue stomped her foot on the ground in hostility. Officer Winkler nodded upward and pointed his finger. Right there Sue. The security guard that was standing next to Officer Winkler said, Wow! That woman is a spit fire! Somebody needs to give her a pay raise!" Officer Winkler snickered.

Dennis, I want to talk to you. Sue said. First off forgive my poor attitude. My wife and unborn baby have been stolen. I want them back. The woman who took them is a psychotic person as well as the men that helped her escape. I am not going to agree to not going with you all to get my family back. The first person to try convincing me to not go on this rescue mission will end up losing their paychecks. I will make sure of it. Sue stood there looking at Dennis and the others with a straight face. Well, alright then, let's get the show on the road and make some calls and get some information. Dennis said. Sue smiled and suggested that they all go to the police station to the conference room. She wanted to get a plan and get one very quickly.

There was 20 members of the swat team. Dennis spoke up. Alright men, this is Sue and she is not only my best friend, co worker and stubborn woman, but she is very good with negotiations. Also the victim in this case is her pregnant wife. The woman involved in this case is a psychotic vengeful woman who had lost full parental rights. She was angry at Karen and the C.A.L Court Appointed Lawyer. I don’t understand why he was not taken along with Karen, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the fact that Karen is the victim and we need to take the hostage takers down without incident or death. We really need to avoid that at all costs. Any how, Sue is going to be going with us, and will be the main negotiator. I trust her skills. Everyone has good skills, but she is top notch in my opinion. If I was ever kidnapped I would want her to be the negotiator for my kidnappers. Everyone laughed. Sue stood up. Alright Dennis, let's get down to brass tacks now. Enough of the comedy. We can have comedy later. So we need to know who these men are that are with Lisa. What do they have in common with her? Where is she living and what’s her number.. I want to know everything from A to Z on this woman. All the way from her looks to her favorite flavor of pop. Ok no pun intended there, but needless to say I want to know everything. We need to first find out her number right now. Dennis gave Sue the phone and input Lisa’s number. Which was to no avail. Her number that they had on file was no longer in service or had been falsified. Sue was mad. She slammed her fists on the table. Alright that witch wants to play unfair, I can do the same. Sue, calm down now. I have.. At that moment Sue’s phone rang. This is Sue. The voice on the other end was Karen. Sue, honey it’s Karen. I am still alive, the baby is still alive. I am so frightened. Lisa wants to speak with you. Karen was very tearful as she handed the phone to Lisa. Lisa? This is Sue. Karen said you want to speak with me? Sue was shaking as she held the phone to her ear. Dennis made her sit down on the chair before she fell down. O.K. Sue. I know you want your wifey back and you’re baby back. Well you know very well you are not going to get the baby back. That baby is going to be mine. My own baby was wrongfully stolen. Well I am going to give you and your little family a lesson in thievery. I am taking the baby, your wife will be returned if she plays her cards right. If not, you will be finding your wifes body some where. I have family with me that are armed to the tee and will not take any crap from anyone. You will not be knowing where I am until much later. If you attempt to find me and my family, there will be a dead body. It won't be mine, it won't be the baby it will be Karen. Do you understand what I am saying? Lisa evilly asked. Yes, I understand. But I have some questions I need to ask you. I need you to answer these questions honestly. Will you do that? Also will you allow me to put the phone on the speaker? I am having a hard time writing things down while I hang on to the phone. I am also shaking like crazy right now. Sue calmly said. Fine. Put the phone on speaker but mind you, no tracing where this phone is coming from. Do you understand? Sue put the phone on the speaker contraption that held the phone. Alright Lisa. Thanks for letting me put you on speaker. Now I want to ask you some questions. How do you plan on delivering the baby? Karen is going to need a doctor. She could end up delivering early or she could have problems. I don’t think you have ever had to help anyone deliver a baby have you? Also what if Karen bleeds too much? Or if her placenta ruptures? I know you don’t want the baby to die. But please understand that Karen has a high risk pregnancy. Her age and the fact that she has high blood pressure also play a part in this as well. She is going to need to be in a hospital setting. Sue could tell that Lisa’s breathing was getting more and more rapid. She was getting angry. Sue, believe me, I am not going to let my baby die. I know you think it’s yours and Karen's but that’s just tough. I have never had to help anyone have a baby. But I have watched programs on television on how others have given birth and such. So if they can do it, so can I. I mean I can do anything I put my mind to. I drove the van to my house. I don’t even have a driver’s licence. I learned how to drive by playing driving games on game systems and at the arcade. I am sure that if i watch even more shows about how people have babies or if I can get my hands on some birthing books I can do just fine. Sue took a breath and spoke to Lisa as calmly as she could. Lisa, please, just let her go. She needs to be near a hospital and doctors that know what they are doing. She will lose the baby if she is not properly taken care of. You won’t even have a chance to save the baby either. Lisa sounded even more angry. Look! Sue! I know the risks. I am not totally stupid that I don’t know. I have books, I have video’s and such on how to deliver. She will not be needing a doctor to deliver the baby. Love will lead my hand in delivery. I love that baby already. This is the end of our conversation now. Just know that my family is armed, dangerous and very adept at hiding in plain sight. Lisa hung up the phone. Sue was really angry now. WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS? IS SHE CRAZY? MY WIFE AND CHILD WILL END UP DEAD! I know it. So who are these monsters that she calls her family? Where are they? Dennis sighed and said, Sue, you are going to flip when you hear this. That phone they used was an untraceable phone. They used a phone card and a disposable phone. We are getting stymied by her. She my be insane, but she has the mind of a criminal. This is not going to be easy to.. Officer Dunn came in the room and opened a file folder. It was a lot of information on the men that were with her. We have some good solid leads to where she could be. Her family members as she calls them are all mentally unstable and have arrest records and mental health facility records as well. The places that they live and where they have their own relatives are all here. She has recruited I guess you could say, these men to work for her or with her and to consider her their lady. The ones that are with her are Don, Adam, Gary, Roger and a woman named Kim who is also her adopted sister. I don’t know if she has any more that are with her. But if she does, we are going to be up against a mountain. She is a master manipulator. She speaks to them and they are in her control. She may be a little woman, but she has a powerful mind. We need her and her family alive. She is going to be in prison for a very long time." Sue uttered mockingly ‘and love will guide my hand in delivery’ What a freaking idiot. I can almost guarantee that something will go wrong. Alright, has anyone got any ideas on where this woman is? Dennis came in and gave Sue a huge file folder. W.. what the hell is this? Sue looked at Dennis like he had lobsters crawling out his ears and eyes. Well, you wanted to know everything from A to Z about Lisa. That there folder holds every bloody thing your going to want to know about her from childhood up till now. There’s a mess of reports, evaluations, diagnosis’s as well as names and places she has been known to frequent as well as people she knows. Dennis said. Sue looked at him with a look of haughty derision. "Look I don’t give a hoot a nanny about what she is like, I need to find her. Do you understand me? Do you understand what is at stake here? Do you realize that any day now Karen could be in labor? And that woman could be messing up a delivery and even killing my wife. Do you understand that? I don’t HAVE TIME TO READ UP ON HER! I WANT THIS WOMAN CAUGHT! Dennis could see that Sue was getting upset. He pulled her close and hugged her as a big brother would hug a sister. Please calm down. We will get her and get your family and we will get this done quickly. Please just trust me. And yes, you can go with us because you're probably going to need to go. Besides, your the best at negotiations. Don’t even say what I think your wanting to say. I
