    PREFACE

The motto of every missionary, whether preacher, printer, or schoolmaster, ought to be Devoted for life.Adoniram Judson

Have you needed a refreshing word after a long day or weekend of serving? Through our service to others, we often give out without taking the time to refill. Varn and I have discovered that we must recharge our spirits. We must be re-motivated, re-directed, re-inspired, often. We have written this book In the Spirit of Armorbearing: A Devotion to Serve to encourage you our fellow servants of Christ.

It is a devotional book and journal designed to reinforce the spiritual precepts presented in the original In the Spirit of Armorbearing book. There are a couple of pages for each week of the year with a Bible verse, a short devotional reading and a space for your own thoughts and reflections.

Its interactive format invites you to trace your journey toward a closer relationship with God and your leaders. The readings are filled with truths excerpted from our (A Devotion to Serve) columns and Armorbearer Training Series book ministry.

With you in mind, we developed some of the power principles from the original book In the Spirit of Armorbearing and added some new ones to compile fifty-two devotional readings for Christian leaders and supporters who are called to serve in any capacity of the local church.

    In Service to Christ,

Week 1 Serve With A Gracious Spirit Earma Brown

The best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love. —William Wordsworth

Are you a gracious ambassador for Christ and your leader? Graciousness simply means to be kind, courteous, and compassionate. We should seek to serve our pastors, leaders and each other with the attitude of love. I know it sounds like a girly term. But it’s not. Remember gentleness doesn’t sound that manly either. But gentleness means strength under control.

The opposite of graciousness is being militant. One of the definitions of militancy is being ready to fight. In the case of God’s people, we are sometimes too ready to fight as a militant.

What I mean by that is: as an armorbearer we naturally feel protective of our leaders and that’s where some of the militancy flows from. As I have matured in Christ, I realize we should be protective in faith and prayer of our leaders. Because we all know—the minute someone stands
