About this ebook
“Bury the bastard! Good riddins!” said Mick. The men walked straight past where Joseph was hiding, and kept their way towards the Annex.
Joseph’s heart was racing, for fear of being found, and also of what Mick had just said. “They just buried someone in the forest,” Joseph thought. A wave of panic came through him, for he knew now he was getting a glimpse, finally, of the Annex, and its people!
As Joseph and Nina celebrate their Engagement news, they travel to Australia to greet Nina’s family. Joseph found himself curious of Nina’s family dealings. His search took him to meeting Bohan, an ex-MI5 agent, and his inevitable involvement in the Project Eureka.
Joseph’s findings led him to question about the Kusers and their underworld associations, and the prospect of marrying into the family. He was no longer sure of the person whom he slept next to every night!
We travel to the sunshine Sydney coast, where this story is set. We are immersed into a story of duty and loyalty, of undying love and sinister betrayals, to uncover underworld espionage and darknet activities amongst the dealings of the secretive Kuser Family, wherein Father rules with an “iron fist”. Chapter One
1.1 Dinner with Father, Marc, and Nina. 2009
At the dinner table, there was an uneasy silence, before Father's voice loomed in commanding tone.
How is the Comms coming along?
Marc responded, Good. Yeah, going good...
absent-mindedly, while enjoying each bite of food with satisfaction.
He's had a long day, and wanted to make the best of this dinner, before they'd be called to duty
again, he thought to himself.
Lucy, the maid, approached the table in a timid manner. Some more for you, sir?
She asked Marc.
Marc replied, Yep.
Lucy turned to Nina, Some more for you, miss?
, she enquired.
No thanks.
Nina responded, as she sat silent, fiddling with the spaghetti with her fork, yet her plate not seeming to empty at all.
Got to eat, dear.
Lucy muttered softly.
Father stood up abruptly from his chair and announced, I'm done here. We'll re-group at twenty-one hundred. I'll need the both of you for tonight.
He gave his mouth a quick wipe of the napkin, turned and walked off.
Marc and Nina knew better not to wince yet, but as soon as Father turned, they both looked at each other with a helpless look, before eye-rolling and a quick under-the-breath Jeez!
from Marc.
Nina drops her fork into her plate in surrender... I've had enough!
indicating to Lucy with a push of her plate away, while wiping her mouth.
1.2 In the Conference room, Marc and Nina ready for next job for Father. 2009
In the room, lights are dimmed to accommodate the bright screens where the work stations sit, amongst other devices spread along the conference table.
As the time slipped into ten past, they put their earphones on, ready to begin.
Nina ensured her machine was in best form, and proceeded to look for the Netherlands servers on the VPN list. She further located the best connectivity server, and signaled to Marc.
You ready?
she checked.
Yep.
We're going in...
as she connected for bridging. When it indicated that they were in a 100% stable connection, Nina announced, We're in!
It took several minutes until Marc finally patched through and began engaging in conversation with men, whom Nina only knew as her Father's associates.
Nina quickly eyed Marc's screen, at the same time keeping watch on the timer, in case of overtime.
On the monitor, was a scene of a dark hollow room. A disheveled man crouched in a far corner of the room, while she saw two men, wearing balaclavas, stood on each side of the room, arms crossed at the chest and looking straight ahead.
Both arms for five thousand. A leg for three.
Nina heard Marc, still chatting on the com.
Nina turned and fixed her gaze on her own monitor, as the timer ticked up to almost thirty minute mark. She began to plan her time out, when she would spend the two hours after this, working on her assignment. Marc promised to help her out, with her editorial article on Warren Buffet, which would be her last major submission for her Bachelor.
Okay, guys, it's a wrap up for this Episode. Tune in next, and keep posted on our forum. See ya'
Marc concluded and nudged Nina for attention.
Nina, thoughts returning, quickly reacted by disconnecting with the server, and returning connectivity back to constant mode. That was fifty-six minutes and thirty-three seconds. Not bad..
Nina said, half-turned to Marc.
Marc and Nina took their earphones off, sighing a breath of relief, that this job was now over.
Father would be pleased.
1.3 Nina at home, on the phone with Joseph. 2018
Well, at the moment, hun, the dilemma is whether to fly the photographers and videographers, and everyone else over ourselves? Or do we just hire some locals?
Nina with the phone squeezed under her chin, while assessing her wardrobe for her evening-wear.
Oh no, you're kidding me! How did that happen? Will you be able to replace everything in time?
asked Nina.
Yes, yes, it's just I'm sure I couldn't have dropped it, or lost it somewhere! I'm so pissed...
Joseph said, touching his back pocket, still trying to back-track where or when his wallet could have gone missing.
So long as you've stopped your cards, and not much cash gone... Not too much is lost, hun.
Nina replied absent-mindedly, as she was focusing on her selection.
That LV was over 2 grand, so much is lost, my dear!
said Joseph, as he pretended to sob on the phone.
Oh no, hun... This is the time when you'd appreciate an imitation... that's 2 thousand down the drain...
, Nina said.
I think I was pick-pocketed!
Joseph told her.
Well, we'll talk more tonight. Right now, I just want to get tonight right, so I'm so undecided on what to wear it's not funny... Ugh... It's our last get together with my girls before I become Mrs Wu! It means a lot!
