1. Sacrifice of Dreams
See! How she came up here with so much pride! You kid of a whore!'-someone shouted from the crowd, and they began to laugh hysterically. 'What are you going to write ahead of your father's name. Huh?!' another one shouted, and they laughed again. Rightly said 'the tongue is no less than arrow ejected from a bow', and those fierce words coming out from their mouth went right down her heart. She was weeping like a child while holding the sides of her head and her classmates never miss a chance to put salt on her wounds.
Janvi was an average student but time and situations made her real tough. Does having a father or at least having a name of the father is really that much important in society? Well, that's the gift from a patriarchal society that has developed a rebellious nature towards it. But, at times she hates herself too. This day served the same when she hated her existence. Holding admit card of 10th grade she stomped towards her mother and said 'Mom, who is my father? Who the pest has thrown me into your womb and never came back here again? Would you talk to my mom I can't bear this sh!t now?'
Malti- ' Would you like to take some tea or coffee? I could even make your favorite potato McCain's too!'
Janvi - 'I want to know the truth, Ma, and don't defy me with your words, if you've cared about my likes and dislikes why wouldn't you let me became a singer?'
Malti became furious and slapped Janvi right on her face. 'You! Want to know the truth, now listen, I was kidnapped, they gave me different-different types of torture that you could ever imagine in your life. When I turned 19, I was pushed into this business. Every Freaking day my consent was robbed and sold in a bid. Demons came in through this door wearing clothes in the form of humans.
Janvi- 'So, don't you know who he is?'
Malti- ' It was winter. That day I had dealt with 6 clients. I got frustrated already with this shit, then I found a middle-height, young guy, black, with a pale face, as his life has already ended him coming through the door.' I was smoking at that moment 'could you tell me one thing, how you've been here? You got such an innocent sheepish face?'
Janvi- 'then?'
Malti- ' He didn't speak up. This makes me angry even more. I got agitated and told him.' You're my 7th client of the day. In this world, people like you came here with a blanket of innocence to throw their money off, then, Bham! Wham! Thank you, mam. GONE. Why wouldn't the world have a name for people like you? We have been called Whore? We have been called Slut? And What More? But you, Man people like you get away with it. Because of people like you, we have been pushed into this dirty business and our consent gets sold. Now, would you talk or just keep on sitting like a dumb asshole.'
He then spoke -' my name is Jitendra (Means- A man who conquers all his senses) but I'm the biggest loser of this world.' This made me laugh. I told-'Yeah, you even look like that. So, Mr. Broke Heart, tell me who left you?'
Jitendra- 'Nobody'.
Malti-' then tell me what happened Asshole, why have you made such a face?' J
itendra- ' You told me that world called you a slut. I don't know what would the world called me, but I don't want to ruin the life of any girl whatsoever. That's why I'm here.
Malti-' I'm not good with riddles. Could you please be clearer? Take this cigarette it will help you out.'
Jitendra took a deep breath after smoking a cigarette and told Malti-' I'm suffering from a brain tumour my doctor told me that I've very little chance of survival. I could sense the Lord of death near me.'
Malti-' Duh! You could touch me anyway. But don't make fake stories to rob my heart.'
Janvi- 'then?'
Malti- 'I just look into those eyes they were like they want to say a lot, but somehow they are lost of words, they were filled with tears.'
Janvi-' And, you got melted. See, that's the problem of us No matter, how strong we girls could become, we ended up losing our shit on things like these.'
Malti-' He looked exactly like you, same eyes almost same face-cut, stubborn, even he wanted to become a singer.'
Janvi's eyes got wider with amusement. She astonishingly told her-' then why you stopped me from becoming a singer? He is alive in me'
Malti-' this stereotypical strangling society will not let us do so. We got to make our presence and for presence we need power and when you got this power you will get the freedom to expand your wings like an albatross hand by hand.'
Janvi-' I'll get respect when I'll be a singer.'
Malti-' why don't you understand every artist and art form has a phase. First, they grow, people flocked towards it, and then they got bored after passing of certain amount of time a new artist or art emerges and takes place of the previous one. Becoming the greatest of all time is only a matter of luck, God's grace, and extremely hard work. Only one in a million artists had such a chance. What you long to be is almost impossible.'
Janvi-' Leave that thing now tell me what he was up to, did he visit hereafter that?' Malti-' He was a son of the jeweller.’
Janvi-' Oh! He was a big fat guy from a big family. He would've spent his life doing this quite often.'
Malti-' I don't think so, He talked to me over the phone quite regularly, but he left the world after four days of the visit. Destiny had different plans for us.'
Malti began to weep and Janvi was trying to console her.
After 6 years, Janvi took the newspaper in his hand 'Ma, look at this' Malti started reading- ' Janvi topped IAS Exam from Bengal Cadre.' This hit her so hard that she was filled with tears of joy she thought as if her life was successful.
She hugged Janvi and told her -' we got successful. My nihilist life has finally a reason, contentment to breathe for.' Both of them were in pure ecstasy. Then Janvi's cellphone rang and people began to congratulate her one by one. After 1 year, Malti-' you look so happy, what happened my dear?'
